Request for Feedback: Draft Outline of ArbitrumDAO’s Monthly Governance Analytics Report

GM ArbitrumDAO community,

We wanted to share a draft outline of our upcoming Arbitrum Governance Analytics Report. This initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance transparency and informed decision-making within ArbitrumDAO. Thanks to the Arbitrum Questbook Grant, we are developing the Arbitrum Governance Analytics Dashboard along with monthly reports to provide valuable insights into our governance processes.

To ensure these resources meet your needs, we invite your feedback on the proposed outline below:

Objectives of the Report

Our Governance Analytics Report aims to:

  1. Make Governance Data Accessible: Present complex governance metrics in a clear and digestible format, enabling all community members to easily understand key trends and patterns.

  2. Provide Contextual Insights: Place current data within the framework of ArbitrumDAO’s historical trends and compare it with similar DAO initiatives to offer deeper context and understanding.

  3. Identify Areas for Improvement and Provide Recommendations: Highlight opportunities to enhance our governance processes and suggest practical steps to drive positive change.

Key Metrics and Areas of Focus

  1. Voting Participation Trends

    • Monthly Participation Rates: Analyze the average participation rate each month and compare it with previous months to spot changes in engagement.
    • Unique Voters and Voting Power: Track the number of unique voters and the total voting power used each month.
    • Active Delegates: Count delegates who participated in at least one vote during the month.
    • New Voters: Identify addresses that voted for the first time to gauge community growth.
  2. Voter Dynamics

    • Significant Voting Power Changes: Monitor voters whose voting power changes exceed certain thresholds (e.g., increases or decreases of 10% or 20%, with at least 50K ARB tokens).
    • Delegate Status Changes: Observe shifts in delegate statuses, such as becoming active, inactive, or ghost delegates.
  3. Proposal Outcomes and Contentiousness

    • Proposal Analysis: Examine the results of proposals, focusing on participation rates, voter turnout, and how contentious each proposal was.

    • Highlighting Contentious Proposals: Identify and discuss the most contentious proposals, such as the Top 10 or Top 20, to understand areas of significant debate.

  4. Voting Power Distribution Shifts

    • Ranking Intervals: Group voters by voting power rankings (e.g., Top 1-10, 11-50, 51-200, etc.).
    • Variance Analysis: Analyze changes in voting power distribution across these groups to identify shifts in influence within the DAO.
  5. In-Depth Analysis of Specific Initiatives

We will provide detailed coverage of specific ArbitrumDAO initiatives to assess their impact on governance. One such example is the Delegate Incentive Program (DIP).

Delegate Incentive Program (DIP) Analysis (Conducted Quarterly)

We will evaluate the DIP’s effectiveness using the following metrics:

    • Participation Rates:

      • Track changes in DIP delegates’ participation in governance activities.
      • Example: Measure the change in overall participation rate of DIP delegates each quarter.
    • Forum Activity:

      • Assess contributions by DIP delegates in forums, including the initiation of proposals and discussions.
      • Examples:
        • Number of proposals and initiatives driven by DIP delegates.
        • Number of comments or rationale provided per proposal.
        • Comparison of early versus late-stage discussions initiated by DIP delegates.
    • Delegate Engagement:

      • Monitor the number of eligible delegates who haven’t joined the DIP, new participants, and attendance at governance calls.
      • Examples:
        • Number of eligible delegates yet to join the program.
        • Number of new delegates who joined during the quarter.
        • Attendance of DIP delegates at bi-weekly governance calls.
    • Voting Power Held by DIP Delegates:

      • Track the total voting power held by DIP delegates and any changes within the DIP pool.
      • Examples:
        • Total voting power of incentivized delegates.
        • Increases in voting power within the DIP delegate pool.
    • Proposal Submissions:

      • Count the number of proposals submitted by DIP delegates.
      • Example: Number of proposals initiated by incentivized delegates during the quarter.

*Note: In the final report, we plan to include visuals like charts and graphs to illustrate key data points clearly.

  1. In the section on “Results and controversies of proposals”, consideration could be given to discussing separately those proposals with a low adoption rate and identifying common problems.
  2. It is suggested that some examples or specific data be added so that everyone can understand the significance of each indicator more intuitively.

Suggest to set up a “Quarterly Review” section to summarize the governance achievements and challenges of the quarter, so that everyone can see the progress of DAO at a glance.

This is a very useful proposal, thank you for your work.

Thank you, @kuiclub, for your insightful feedback!

In our Proposal Outcome section, we already plan to analyze proposal categories and individual outcomes. If we notice low adoption rates or patterns indicating improvement opportunities, we’ll highlight these in our report to help refine proposal strategies.

We’ve chosen a monthly reporting format to provide timely insights by tracking changes month-to-month. Each report will compare the current month’s data to the previous month, helping us identify key metrics and areas needing attention.

That said, adding a quarterly review could provide a broader view of long-term trends and achievements, which would nicely complement our monthly updates. If the community finds this valuable, we’re open to including a quarterly summary to highlight key milestones and challenges, offering a well-rounded view of the DAO’s progress.

We appreciate your feedback, which helps us ensure the report remains relevant and actionable for the community. If you have any other thoughts or further suggestions, feel free to share!

Ok, thanks for your replies and work, looking forward to better results!

gm @Curia,

We’ve gone through the post and found the proposed outline of the report to be detailed. While we understand this is for a monthly governance analytics report, would it be possible to include the following:

  1. Insights into proposals where late voting swung results
  2. Graphs and charts that visually show changes over months for a running 6-month period

Other than the above two, the rest look excellent and we’re looking forward to the first report.
