Ongoing Onchain Proposals
1. [CONSTITUTIONAL] Remove Cost Cap, Update Executors, Disable Legacy USDT Bridge (Voting ends September 4)
This proposal combines three maintenance related proposals that have previously passed temperature checks on Snapshot. It seeks to:
- The legacy bridge is proposed to be disabled entirely, rather than continuing with the current configuration which subjects depositors to a week-long delay and risks loss of funds if the depositor is a smart contract.
- The modernized version introduces an additional function that enables the Upgrade Executor to execute an upgrade by directly calling the target contract, rather than indirectly delegate calling an upgrade contract. As a result, future governance actions can be executed more simply and with fewer contract deployments.
-
This increase in gas fees is necessary to ensure the long-term sustainability of the network and reduce the financial burden on the Arbitrum Foundation which currently subsidizes the costs of using Arbitrum Nova.
-
Given the diminishing relevance of Nova due to the rise of Orbit chains, and the evolving Layer 2 landscape which has reduced the cost difference between Nova and Arbitrum One (through the introduction of EIP-4844), lifting this cap will prevent inefficiencies and unnecessary constraints on network operations.
Ongoing Temperature Checks
1. ArbOS Version 50 Dia (Voting ends September 4th)
This proposal upgrades Arbitrum One and Arbitrum Nova to ArbOS 50 Dia.
Dia adds support for relevant Execution Layer (EL) changes from Ethereum’s upcoming Fusaka upgrade (Q4 2025), enabling EIP-2537, a few bug fixes, and a handful of new features, such as a new feature called Native Mint/Burn.
While the goal of this upgrade is to eventually be available for adoption by any Arbitrum Chain, this proposal only concerns the Arbitrum One and Arbitrum Nova chains, as these two chains are governed by the ArbitrumDAO. The proposed upgrade builds upon ArbOS 40 Callisto, which has been previously adopted by the ArbitrumDAO.
