I am very excited to re-apply for the Arbitrum Security Council. L2BEAT had a representative on the SC from the first day this body has been constituted, and I feel like over the years we have been an instrumental, vocal, and very active member of both the SC and the larger DAO via our delegate platform.
L2BEAT is not a traditional audit / security company. We strongly believe that the council should be diverse and comprise not only “traditional” security researchers, but also representatives of communities that, while deeply technical (which we think is crucial for SC operations), bring to the table their unique experience and perspective that strengthen the SC mandate as a safeguard for the whole system.
Why L2BEAT ?
L2BEAT started as a small community of researchers looking deeply at the smart contract architectures and other technical aspects of different Ethereum L2s. Over the years, it developed as the unique and most trusted community resource analysing trust security and trust assumptions of not just the vast and diverse L2s ecosystem but also DAs, interop, ZK proving platforms. The sheer amount of platforms alongside the need for constant monitoring (we process on average 10 daily updates from different systems) required us to build unique tooling that allows us to quickly assess the scope of any change in any monitored system. Additionally, considering that we are monitoring all L2s, DAs and entire interop space we have a very unique, broad overview that more specialized teams often lack.
Work with Arbitrum specifically
Considering Arbitrum’s role in the space, it is perhaps not surprising that we had a long working relationship with both Offchain Labs and the DAO. We have reviewed full Arbitrum code on many occasions, helped Arbitrum achieve Stage 1 Designation, created a specialized Ecosystem page, reviewed every single iteration of the Fraud Proof System and, considering being part of SC from Day One - reviewed and approved every single upgrade.
On the DAO front, L2BEAT is a known delegate, again from the moment the DAO was created. We are heavily engaged with the community and will continue to do so.
Experience from different SCs
Our experience of being part of different SCs and the work with multiple projects in the space allows us to bring to the table the best industry practices and drive SC towards being more efficient and more resilient. We have published various reports for L2s, including one on the common architectures for different SCs in the space that is often used by the new projects wanting to design their own SC as a reference.
About me, personally
I am a founder of L2BEAT, a project that was created out of the passion and need for making our space more transparent and honest. The space, unfortunately, is abounded with plentiful marketing claims that often don’t reflect the reality. Many projects try to position themselves as “self-custodial”, fully permissionless, credibly neutral, etc… with very few actually being able to truly deliver on what they promise. On a personal level, I see my mandate to continue this mission as long as the broad community sees its value.
