[SOS Submission] Gabriel – Strategic Objectives

Thanks for putting up this SOS. The case on the state of Arbitrum is very clear: Arbitrum is missing a clear narrative to onboard apps and users, and in your opinion this should be DeFi, complemented with a great user experience and a lean and efficient organizational structure for the DAO and the overall ecosystem development.

On the first objective, while we agree DeFi is the primary use case for web3 apps, Arbitrum should stay ahead of the trend and be able to foresee what is going to be the next killer app that will onboard the next cohort of users, so in terms of ecosystem ROI, focusing mainly in DeFi, where there is already a rich ecosystem of apps that are familiar by most of web3 users does not seems as attractive as investing in the next vertical, which might bring a whole new section of users.

Additionally, Arbitrum is already heavily invested, both in terms of funding and operationally, in gaming through the GCP. Setting DeFi as the primary focus of the DAO could be seen as a shift in the vision for GCP and raise the concerns that were outlined in the recent GCP Clawback discussion. For this reason, a more thorough analysis on the risks of adopting this strategy would be appreciated, as it can have multiple second-order effects.

On the second objective, this is the one we are most aligned with. User experience is still a painpoint for DeFi and web3 in general and we think that focusing on improving UX could bring Arbitrum’s DeFi to the next level, and facilitate the success of future verticals that are not yet among the main use cases for the chain. In this regard, the recent passing of ArbOS Version 40 Callisto is a huge step toward this goal and should have more attention among the community. Long-term goals like web3 Agents could also have a case in this vertical.

On Arbitrum’s organizational structure, this is the everyday discussion around all DAOs in the space and we are happy to see Entropy taking a step forward to clearly outline strategic goals for the DAO with the collaboration of the whole community. We think this is the right way to go.

Overall, in this SOS we are missing some of the key points outlined in the SOS description, e.g., risks, key results, high-level resources and the alignment with Arbitrum MVP. For this reason, we would like to see these included before this went up for voting.
