Announcing the Oxcart Delegation Engine on Arbitrum

The Program

We’d like to formally invite the top 100 Arbitrum Delegates to register for the Oxcart Delegation Engine! The ODE is an advanced tool for delegates seeking greater alignment with each other and their delegators. As a tool for DAOs, ODE will enable streamlined working group and multisig formation, allowing our top-level delegates to self-govern with increasing legitimacy.

This new tool consists of:

  • A smart contract registry (1,2)
  • An API (3)
  • A dashboard (4)

In the first experiment on Arbitrum we have made this new tool available to the top 100 delegates by voting power (5). The selection of a trusted backup delegate is the only information required to participate, and this can be changed at any time. Delegates will record these selections on-chain via the dashboard, and an API is provided for builders and researchers.

At the early phases we have two primary research goals:

  • Determine how meta-delegate support affirms or diverges from active participant voting.
  • Determine how access to a meta-delegation dashboard impacts delegate and tokenholder activity.

And two primary action items:

  • Resource delegates toward increased connection with:
    • each other (alignment);
    • constituencies (leadership and service), and;
    • DAO governance operations (efficacy).
  • Recommend metrics and methodologies based on the new system that may reduce voter fatigue while increasing legitimacy.

Longer-term we hope to determine how introducing intra-delegate support metrics at various stages of the governance process may increase overall efficacy and legitimacy.

For Delegates

Our goal is participation by all delegates as future experiments will include those that register in this round. This round, one ARB 12,000 reward will be given to one participant, randomly selected at the end of the registration period at approximately 2024-08-23 12PM, or at precisely blockheight 20590515. To participate you must register a backup delegate from the dropdown of fellow delegates.

It may take up to one minute for your choice to show on the delegate connection graph.

Once a backup is selected, you will be eligible for the lottery-style drawing on 2024-08-23:

Consult the FAQs and reach out via our telegram group if you have any issues.

Next Steps

We’d like to thank all of those at Thank Arb, Thrive Protocol, and Firestarters for their support, as well as the Arbitrum community at large for supporting governance innovation at the level and scale undertaken here. Personally I’d like to thank StableLab and the respective teams building Oxcart and the Forse platform. We hope to give the Arbitrum community something of lasting value in the coming weeks.

If you are a top 100 delegate we ask that you join our telegram group to give feedback; comments to this post are also welcome. We are particularly interested in features or visuals you may find useful. Additionally if you have a preferred governance tool or community that you think would benefit from using Oxcart, we’d like to talk to you.

Big shout out to @Matt_StableLab, @coltron.eth and @Griff for getting in early; you are currently eligible for the ARB 12k drawing! If you are on the @coinflip or @maxlomu voting wallet you have been selected as trusted backups; you must go on and choose your own to become eligible for the reward. Thanks all!

Today’s Teamster Update:

  • Voting Power now displayed by clicking a delegate! Let us know what other features you’d like to see!

  • Anyone with a web3 wallet can connect to see live delegate graph, not just delegates!

  • Today we have one new entrant, @0x_ultra, bringing the total registered to 4.

  • As a reminder, being selected does not make you eligible, so @coinflip, @maxlomu, and @cattin would still need to select a backup themselves prior to the deadline to participate.

Thanks Delegates!

I like the idea and would be interested in participating if non-top 100 delegates are ever allowed to join.

Gm Arbitrum community! Delegates have been busy; we’ve doubled the number of entrants in a day, and have some complex trust graphs forming. For current Delegate chains we have:

@dk3 (unregistered)
___^— @cattin {NEW}
______ ^— @0x_ultra
______ ^— @maxlomu {NEW}
_________^— @Griff

@coinflip (unregistered)
___^— StableLab

Sincere thanks to all Delegates, and good luck!

Awesome work and excited to see results of this pilot experiment @emjicy

The delegation graph will make a great resource for the math and data science lenses – could we look at collaborating on analysis in the future?

First things first:

Congrats :ox::ox::ox: @NathanVDH :ox::ox::ox: !!!

on winning the ARB 12k participation reward! THANK YOU to ALL who participated and gave feedback; we’re just getting started.

The Delegate Connection Graph shows the final participants, and their selected backups:

Now that the rewarded portion of the program is over, we hope Delegates will continue to use this tool to express their desired backup voter; we’ve also highlighted paths where voter activity has been most previously aligned.

We will continue to iterate and encourage you to play with this metadelegation tool; we’re actively seeking further research and development opportunities @octopus and I know we’ve been highly aligned for some time now. There is much to be done and I will support researchers looking to use this data to help DAOs and delegates self-govern. The API documentation may be helpful, let’s discuss this coming week as we’re parsing the data!

Special thanks to ThankArb and Thrive, as well as StableLab’s product and data units; working with these teams of tireless humans has been educational and inspirational. @DisruptionJoe and @shawn16400 your belief in Oxcart’s potential has meant new worlds to me, and I hope countless others.

Thanks Team and Delegates! :ox:

PS, we’d like to open the telegram group to all interested in discussing, not just delegates. Thank you for your interest! → JOIN HERE ←

Hey! This is an interesting initiative.

Just so I understand correctly, is the main output at this time, the creation of a delegate ‘social graph’? If so, what do you intend to do with this data?

As a backup delegate, it doesn’t mean that you can vote on behalf of another delegate, if they forget to vote, right?
