Enhancing Multichain Governance: Upgrading RARI Governance Token on Arbitrum

I voted FOR this proposal at the temp check stage. Governance is one of the stickiest sources of users and TVL. It’s commendable that Rari is demonstrating its alignment with Arbitrum by moving governance from L1 to Arbitrum One, especially given the amount of work required to pass a constitutional proposal like this one.

Thanks, everyone, for your support and votes on Snapshot. We’ll move on to the Tally vote next week.

The Treasure ARC voted FOR this proposal. It assists an established and well known community in their transition to Arbitrum, one that has already ratified the move, expanding the user base in both numbers and interests. As the proposal is mainly for the technical purpose of configuring the bridge, we look forward to a more streamlined process for other protocols that would like to make the same move, aligned with L2Beats points.

I voted for this proposal, it has no direct costs for the DAO (other than the time for the Security Audit) and bringing more protocols, tokens, and communities to Arbitrum has a positive impact on the ecosystem.

Below are the opinions of the UADP:

We voted For this proposal and believe that it’s a no-brainer. The constitutional process behind this shows a degree of potential inefficiencies for the DAO. More migrations is net positive for Arbitrum. However, if the degree of friction behind conducting these is high, Arbitrum is likely missing out on attracting projects simply due to these inefficiencies.

Thanks to everyone who voted for the proposal in Snapshot. Our proposal is now published on Tally HERE and voting will kick in on Friday.

We’re aware that per Arbitrum DAO’s social consensus, new votes should be posted/scheduled to begin before Thursday at 12 pm UTC and this proposal is technically in violation of that. Our delay is due to waiting on a published security audit of the code change as we wanted to make sure is included in the proposal and didn’t want to delay the vote by a week. The RARI FND is running an ecosystem activation campaign in late October, for which this custom pathway implementation is needed. We hope the Arbiturm delegates understand our urgency, and we apologize again for not being on schedule with the proposal post time.

=== COMMENTING ON PROPOSAL: ===

The Rari governance transition to Arbitrum is a significant move that aligns with the broader goals of improving governance efficiency and onboarding active communities into the Arbitrum ecosystem. While we support the proposal, it’s crucial to explore more streamlined mechanisms for handling future bridge contract configurations. This would help reduce the administrative burden and allow for faster adoption by other protocols considering similar transitions. Providing more detailed incentives for Rari token holders to migrate from Ethereum would also help smooth the process and ensure a more successful transition.

The following reflects the views of L2BEAT’s governance team, composed of @krst and @Sinkas, and it’s based on the combined research, fact-checking, and ideation of the two.

We’re voting FOR this proposal just like we signaled we’d do when we voted for it during temp-check.

The security review conducted by the ARDC didn’t raise any issues with the proposed implementation, which could have potentially changed our decision based on severity.

I’m reaffirming my vote and voting ‘FOR’ on Tally for the same reasons I had already outlined during temp-check:

Migrating RARI DAO to Arbitrum will not only improve governance efficiency and reduce user costs but also bring an active community to the Arbitrum ecosystem. The OpenZeppelin review confirms that the changes are well-founded and that the new token contract is fully audited. Therefore, I believe this move to be a net positive for both RARI DAO and the broader Arbitrum ecosystem.

We Voted FOR this proposal

Rationale

  • Alignment with Arbitrum’s Goals: Moving governance to the Arbitrum ecosystem is consistent with Arbitrum’s focus on scalability and user accessibility
  • Improved Efficiency and Reduced Costs: the proposal will significantly reduce gas fees and make participation in governance more accessible for token holders.
  • Enhanced Governance Functionality: The proposal embeds important features like snapshots and delegations into the upgraded RARI token contract. This adds flexibility for token holders, streamlines governance, and improves decision-making processes.
  • Security and Audits: The upgraded token contract and the custom gateway have undergone security audits by Trail of Bits and manual tests. This provides a level of assurance that the transition will be secure and reliable, reducing the risk of vulnerabilities.
  • Technical Readiness: The proposal has a clear plan and has already completed important milestones, such as token contract deployment and security audits. The main remaining step is for the Arbitrum DAO to register the custom gateway, showing that the project is well-prepared for execution.

I voted FOR on Tally for the same reasons.

I voted FOR this proposal on Tally for the reasons outlined here. I appreciate that the Rari team took the time to include a published audit in the proposal.

Blockworks Research will be voting for this proposal on Tally.

We appreciate the effort from the Rari team to include an audit in the proposal. Our other reasoning is outlined here:

DAOplomats is voting in favor of this proposal on Tally.

We supported this proposal during the temp check and we would be maintaining our stance for the onchain vote.

Im voting FOR in Tally as I did in temp-check.

Also, would like to mention that I appreciate the Rari team taking the time to include a published audit as part of the proposal. Included here:

And same rational. No brainer.

Voted For: Same comment as for the Snapshot vote. Happy to see RARI DAO moving their governance on Arbitrum. I hope this case will convince other protocols or DAOs to decide the same and move their governance to Arbitrum.
