[FINAL REPORT] - Boring Security: Free, Interactive, Web3 Security Education

Executive Summary

  • Project: Boring Security

  • Questbook application: Boring Security: Free, Interactive Web3 Security Education

  • Website/socials, others

  • Grant Summary

    • The DeFi Safety module is a live and interactive Discord class and quiz funded by the Arbitrum DAO. The class helps users and builders understand how to protect their DeFi assets and governance processes.

    • The module covered, among other things:

      1. DeFi protocols and products such as bridges and DEXes

      2. Understanding and navigating safely approvals, impermanent loss, and pooled vs isolated liquidity

      3. Keeping guard from scams such as Permit 2 batch scams and social media scams in DeFi communities.

      4. Specific examples highlighting Arbitrum-based platforms like Hyperliquid and GMX.

    • Boring Security facilitated 8 classes from October 2025 to March 2026, with 200 students attending (must have attended at least 50% of the sessions).

  • Impact of the funding:

    • The grant helped us in two ways:

      1. Class creation: our subject matter expert and graphic designer put together 2 hours of class material. The material is refreshed peroidically and the class remains on our teaching roster for months and years to come.

      2. Class facilitation: our instructions and operations were able to teach and market the class, and hold 1:1s for struggling students.

Performance Against KPIs

In terms of student numbers, we hit the target set in the grant request. Some students also opted to take the class more than once. If, on a unique per-student basis, we gathered 200 students.

It took us 2 months longer to teach all the classes as we held fewer sessions in October and December, due to holiday and scheduling concerns.

While we did not have any specific set targets for quiz take-up and pass rates, nearly 70% of our students passed the quiz and will receive the class token. There are still many more efforts we can explore to raise future class participation and quiz take-up rates. From bump-up reminders to incentivization through special NFTs or hardware wallet partner giveaways.

Qualitative Impact & Community Feedback

Financial Summary

  • 60% - Class creation mostly for the subject matter expert, design and visual lead, and a smaller allocation to the content and socials lead.

  • 40% - Actual class teaching to pay for the instructors, marketing, and operations.

Future Plans and Ecosystem Alignment

  • Next steps for the project post-grant:

    • How do you plan to expand on the original idea?

      • As mentioned in the original grant application, we constantly update the class material. For now, the class will be paused to make way for those new updates. Then, we plan to resume teaching the class as long as demand exists.
    • How do you plan to continue being engaged in Arbitrum?

      • We plan to reach out to fellow Arbitrum grant recipients. We believe there are synergies in terms of offering our classes and referring their services to our Alumni.
  • Impact of the grant on securing further funding or partnerships.

    • Having Arbitrum DAO on our backs is a massive win. As one of the most recognized crypto ecosystems, Arbitrum can open up many future funding opportunities for us.

Additional remarks

We’re very happy with the grant process, from application to milestone checks. Thank you especially to JuanRah and Ministro del Dolar.
