Kleros is a protocol that provides a transparent, efficient, and fair method for resolving disputes by leveraging the wisdom of crowds. The protocol utilises smart contracts to manage the dispute resolution process, allowing parties to submit disputes and receive rulings in a trustless manner from randomly selected jurors. Since its launch on Ethereum mainnet in 2017, Kleros has consistently led the way in decentralized justice, resolving more than 2,000 disputes, some of them involving millions at stake. Learn more about famous Kleros cases here.

Launch of Kleros 2.0 Beta

We are thrilled to announce the launch of Kleros 2.0 Beta on Arbitrum One. It allows us to test core features in a controlled live environment while gathering valuable feedback from our community. This foundational version introduces essential aspects of Kleros 2.0, setting the stage for more sophisticated capabilities in future releases.

Arbitrum has been chosen as the primary deployment site for Kleros 2.0 due to its scalability and efficiency advantages. Over the past year, extensive testing on the Arbitrum testnets has refined the protocol, which now includes an optimistic message bridge named Vea and integrations with bridge aggregators like Hashi. These developments will enable Kleros to effectively communicate rulings across different networks while keeping the economic security of the protocol on Arbitrum.

Kleros 2.0 Beta is actually in the testing phase and runs in parallel to Kleros 1.0 on Ethereum mainnet. When Kleros 2.0 will be secure enough, Kleros 1.0 will be deprecated and all the court activity and the economic security (= PNK Staked) will be moved to Kleros 2.0 on Arbitrum One. This event will be called “The Kleros Merge” in analogy to the Ethereum Merge.

  • Improved UI/UX:** With a redesigned interface, Kleros 2.0 delivers a more intuitive experience for jurors, dispute creators, and developers alike. From streamlined case handling to clearer navigation, this UI/UX update makes interacting with the protocol smoother and more accessible. You can see initial cases here.

These improvements set a solid foundation, allowing the protocol to grow and adapt while preserving security, usability, and system integrity.

Future Features

While Kleros 2.0 Beta sets the groundwork, several advanced features are already in development for future releases:

  • Modular Architecture: The modular design planned for future versions will allow for the addition of new functionalities without altering core contracts. This setup will enable Kleros to evolve rapidly, integrating new tools, mechanisms, and features seamlessly.
  • Cross-Chain Capabilities: Rulings made on Arbitrum will be enforceable across multiple blockchain networks, broadening Kleros’ reach and flexibility across the Web3 ecosystem.
  • Expanded Security and Dispute Resolution Tools: Based on testing results and community feedback, we’ll implement additional security mechanisms and dispute resolution features, adapting the platform to the diverse needs of the digital world.

Kleros Real World Use Cases

Partnership with the Supreme Court of Mendoza

Kleros Cooperative has partnered with the Judiciary Power of Mendoza, one of the biggest provinces in Argentina, to introduce decentralized justice solutions into the traditional court system. This collaboration leverages blockchain technology and decentralized jurors to enhance dispute resolution efficiency.

The pilot project at Lavalle Peace Court focuses on neighborhood and consumer disputes, utilizing the Kleros platform for case management. A test case on a traffic accident confirmed the platform’s potential, aligning closely with traditional court decisions, highlighting the faster and more cost-effective nature of this approach.

Partnership with Lemon, One of the Biggest Fintech Companies in LATAM

Kleros has partnered with Lemon, a prominent app with 3 million users, to integrate its decentralized dispute resolution service. This collaboration allows Lemon users to escalate their claims to Kleros if they are unsatisfied with the initial resolutions provided by Lemon’s customer support.

Kleros jurors review escalated cases and deliver verdicts, which Lemon has committed to honoring. This integration is aimed at reducing customer churn and improving user satisfaction by providing a fair and transparent mechanism for resolving disputes. Kleros has been a pioneer in legal tech and academic research on decentralized dispute resolution. Since 2018, the six-month Fellowship Program has been running annually, bringing together participants from diverse fields such as computer science, cryptoeconomics, law, and business. Kleros already enhances the security of the Arbitrum Ecosystem through
Kleros Scout that aggregates contract metadata from community-curated registries. These insights are leveraged by Arbiscan to provide detailed tags and valuable information on specific smart contracts and addresses.

Kleros has extensive expertise in Optimistic Governance, demonstrated by the successful deployment of the SafeSnap Module, which has been utilized by leading DAOs such as 1inchDAO since 2022. This module enables seamless on-chain execution of off-chain voting in a fully permissionless manner.
