2.1 Requested Grant Size:

300k ARB

2.2 Grant Matching:

To show our belief in this strategy, we’ll be:

  • Adding 50K ARB from our Treasury
  • Adding a portion of revenue gained from the event back into rewards for players

2.3 Grant Breakdown:

2.3.1 Increase activity through Gamified ANIMA LP: 100k

We track ANIMA LP Tokens through a vesting process that provides in-game incentives. Players will compete for the top position to get the higher rewards.

2.3.2 Scale Up Loyal User Base: 200k

We’ll be incentivizing our on-chain activities(i.e. Battles,Crafting,Missions,Production) through our new and existing leaderboards. This will turn new users into loyal players that continue to play the game even after incentives are gone.

2.6 Contract Address:

Funds will be disbursed by the team based on leaderboard standings

SECTION 3: GRANT OBJECTIVES AND EXECUTION

Clearly outline the primary objectives of the project and the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) used to measure success. This helps reviewers understand what the project aims to achieve and how progress will be assessed.

3.1 Objectives

Over the past two years we’ve built a sustainable and competitive fully on-chain game. Our game loops have been proven to work well to retain players and reward those who are actively playing.

Our focus for all our objectives is to create second-order effects that ripple throughout Arbitrum.

Realm seeks to achieve two goals with this grant:

3.1.1 Increase activity through Gamified ANIMA LP

All our liquidity is currently on MagicSwap in MAGIC/ANIMA pool. All liquidity is community owned. You can read more about our approach here: ANIMA. Unlocked and Ready | by Realm | Medium

ANIMA is only made available through gameplay. We have a Leaderboard where players compete for top positions in order to get in-game boosts that allows them to attain more ANIMA.We will be using a similar Leaderboard for the ARB Incentives. The higher your position, the more Incentives you’ll get.

This creates a competition between players where they must strategize what position best suits their risk tolerance and incentive potential. Being a Liquidity Provider does not guarantee you incentives, you must compete.

So what value does this create?

  • Increase in ANIMA demand
  • Increase in demand for Liquidity Providers
  • Increase in liquidity
  • Increase in activity on-chain through Realm activities
  • Increase in activity for MagicSwap
  • Increase in activity in other protocols(i.e. marketplaces, dex/cex and connected games) with new liquidity
  • Increase in attractiveness of ANIMA, which incentivizes Realm game loops which in turn creates more activity, which benefits Arbitrum

All these increases benefit Arbitrum as it represents activity on-chain.

As you can start to see, it creates a flywheel that fuels itself and fuels all the networks it’s connected to. The grant supercharges all these activity(game) loops and will continue to provide value even after the grant incentives are gone.

3.1.2 Scale Up Loyal User Base

Our user retention is high, at 81%. We expect to convert new users into loyal users and multiply the on-chain activity that we currently have.

3.2 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • Increase in DAU
  • Increase in retention
  • Increase in daily transactions
  • Increase in MAGIC/ANIMA liquidity pool
  • Increase in MAGIC/ANIMA swaps
  • Increased in MagicSwap MAGIC/ANIMA Volume
  • Increase in Vested ANIMA LP tokens

3.3 How will receiving a grant enable you to foster growth or innovation within the Arbitrum ecosystem?:

3.3.1 Fostering Growth

The data shows that our game loops are sticky and rewarding to those that are engaged. The grant will allow us add fuel to fire by providing enticing rewards for newcomers and existing users.

This grant will provide incentives to multiply our DAU, Retention and Economy. This in turn creates more network activity for Arbitrum. The grant will bring more on-chain activity through our numerous activities:

  • Providing Liquidity through MagicSwap
  • Vesting of LP Tokens
  • Competitive in-game rewards
  • Daily Battles
  • Daily Missions
  • Weekly Leaderboard contests
  • Weekly Production of Collectibles
  • Daily Structure Building
  • Cycle of Crafting Peripherals and usage
  • Maintenance of Realms and Adventurers
  • LootBox distribution.

(See charts under Protocol Performance for activity snapshots)

3.3.2 Innovation

We are continually innovating with what an on-chain game can look like:

  • Productive Assets: Realms and Adventurers are productive assets that allow you to build up more in-game value(on-chain) the more you play. This creates a flywheel of value for those that are actively engaged.

  • Fully on-chain LootBox Platform: We created a LootBox Platform that allows us to dispense any ERC1155, ERC721 or ERC20 to our users. We have already incorporated Treasure and Knights of the Ether items and will be looking to continue our push for interoperability.

  • Ever Evolving Assets: Since day one, our approach was to create ownership of an asset that changes based on your activity. Realmers have been doing this for 2 years+. Their Realms and Adventurers have been growing in uniqueness and in-game value. All this data is stored on-chain.

  • Interconnected Game loops: We’ve created a dualistic economy that fuels itself forward. We’ve done this by creating game loops that are fueled by activity and rewarding those who take the time to build up their assets.

  • AI + Blockchain: We’re pioneering a novel approach where AI dynamically crafts game assets and their traits based on user activity. We are beginning with crafting but it will permeate all aspects of the Realm ecosystem. Our rich game meta-data is one of out most valuable assets, and it’s all stored directly on-chain in the Arbitrum network.
The Infinite Game (♾️,🎮). How AI will usher in a New Genre of… | by Realm | Medium

3.4 Justification for the size of the grant:

  • We have sticky user base + strong retention without additional incentives, demonstrating that adding incentives is more likely to retain a large proportion of users. This would lead to multiplying all our metrics(DAU, Transactions per month, second-order effects)

  • Realm is a core TIP09 partner of Treasure, and worked closely with the Treasure core team on game integrations (participating as a game/guild that players play to compete in the Bridgeworld Harvester metagame that underpins the Treasure gaming ecosystem).

  • Realm is one of few fully on-chain games which launched when Arbitrum launched in 2021. Realm will help Arbitrum establish a reputation for unique emerging web3 game categories such as Autonomous Worlds.

3.5 Execution Strategy:

3.5.1 Proven Game Loops

This is not theoritical. Our game loops are working today and have proven to create loyal and active players. These incentives would act as a catalyst to bring scale to our user base. In turn, this will create network effects for Realm, Treasure and Arbitrum.

Because of our interconnected, interoperable protocol, every action creates an incentive for players to continue to interact with Realm and the greater ecosystem(Treasure and Arbitrum). The above diagram is merely one facet of our protocol showing how it promotes continual activity within Realm. Every arrow is an on-chain transaction(or set of transactions) that players make.

This has been the underpinning and ethos of Realm since day one. To create a network of experiences that causes all boats to rise with the tide.

3.5.2 Preventing Mercenary Farming

We are aware that players will attempt to farm these rewards. We have several mechanisms in place that will prevent mercenaries from taking rewards and leaving the ecosystem.

3.6 Grant Timeline:

Bi-weekly distribution of funds that will go towards our objectives:

  • Increase activity through Gamified ANIMA LP
  • Scale Up Loyal User Base

3.7 Do you accept the funding of your grant streamed linearly for the duration of your grant proposal, and that the multisig holds the power to halt your stream?

Yes

SECTION 4: PROTOCOL DETAILS

Provide details about the Arbitrum protocol requirements relevant to the grant. This information ensures that the applicant is aligned with the technical specifications and commitments of the grant.

4.1 Is the Protocol Native to Arbitrum?:

Yes, the game is fully on-chain.

4.2 On what other networks is the protocol deployed?:

None

4.3 What date did you deploy on Arbitrum?:

Sept 2021

4.4 Protocol Performance:

  • Treasure Marketplace Total Volume: 2.5 Million MAGIC spanning several collections
  • ANIMA ~85% burn rate

Hello @jona thank you for your application! Please make the following changes to your proposal to comply with the program rules.

  1. Unfortunately, your 12-month timeline does not meet the requirements regarding the expected timeline of the incentives program.
  1. Funds will be streamed to grantees every second week and distributions must be made in this time interval not monthly intervals.

Some Stats:

  • Weekly active users about ~300 (generous)

  • Daily transactions ~500

In addition:

Checking the Liquidity Pool for ANIMA/MAGIC currently shows ~$117k and the grant proposes to send 300k ARB tokens as rewards, this equates to about an 800% Reward APR, based on 3 months.

Admire the grit to build a game and continuing to do so over this time, but this grant request is unreasonable in size based on core metrics.

Hi, thanks for reading through our proposal!

Wanted to clarify a couple of things.

Our DAU(Daily Active User) averages around ~200.
Our Daily transactions average around ~1000 per day.

All this data comes from our Dune reports which will be available during the whole process.

As for the APR, maybe the section under Grant Breakdown wasn’t explicit enough on how rewards will be distributed. This is not a DeFi protocol so the way incentives are distributed is not as people are use to. We’ll update the proposal to make sure its clearer after this post.

Our focus for all our objectives is to create second-order effects. So our incentives for ANIMA LP are centered around that.

Players are incentivized to become a Liquidity Provider and vest their LP tokens into the game. By doing so, they are rewarded with in-game boosts when they Battle and perform other activities. This allows them to receive more $ANIMA which they then use to level up their Adventurers.

As seen in the image above, we have a Leaderboard that tracks their staked LP tokens and the percentage of those tokens that they staked. That gives them a position on the Leaderboard.

We will be using a similar Leaderboard for the ARB Incentives. The higher your position, the more Incentives you’ll get. What this creates is a competition between players where they must strategize what position best suits their risk tolerance and incentive potential. Being a Liquidity Provider does not guarantee you incentives, you must compete.

So what value does this create?

  • Increased ANIMA demand
  • Increased demand for Liquidity Providers
  • Increased liquidity
  • Increased activity on-chain through Realm activities
  • Increased activity for MagicSwap
  • Increased activity in other protocols(i.e. dex/cex and connected games) with new liquidity
  • Increased value of ANIMA, which incentivizes Realm game loops which in turn creates more activity, which benefits Arbitrum

All these increases benefit Arbitrum as it represents activity on-chain. As you can start to see, it creates a flywheel that fuels itself and fuels all the networks it’s connected to. The grant supercharges all these activity(game) loops and will continue to provide value even after the grant incentives are gone.

To use an analogy, this grant is like an initial investment in a startup. It provides the necessary boost to get things flowing, but once the cash flow starts, the business’s revenue, growth and momentum can sustain and amplify itself.

Appreciate the informative response

My names were skimmed from your supplied images.

Re the LP incentives, so basically as an LP if you lock for longer you get a larger share of rewards? Ultimately it’s still ~300k ARB allocated to an LP currently the size of ~$117k. I get that you want a big flywheel boost immediately and that it will give wider benefits to your local ecosystem the the bigger the flywheel is.

But that is also the point of every single grant, boosting a key product to create a stronger flywheel and/or create a boost of surrounding protocols etc.

Your grant is still very large for the existing impact of Realm when you compare to other protocols/projects. Suggestion is to lower.

Hi everyone

Before taking a decision in this case, please take into account the incident from June when there was a so called “hack” of one of the team members discord account which was later use to post a malicious link on the official Realm channel from an official team member discord account and resulted in several members getting their wallets drained. When confronted about this, the team and their moderators didn’t take any accountability for this, no compensation at all for the scam (which could also be the case of inside job) victims, more than that they started mocking everyone that raised concerns about this situation.

I think it would be unfair to all the other projects in the Arbitrum ecosystem that are hard working, fair and respect their community if this project would be selected to receive a grant.

Have a good day!

By same method of deduction, can we presume you are the hack perpetrator, now trying to get some free coin from the project?

Sorry to hear about your losses, but if something is too good to be true, it’s a scam. It’s a tough pill to swallow. We’ve all been there.

These are exactly the type of allegations victims were met with when they tried to raise the issue on their discord channel. Instead of trying to help them out, some were accused of being the actual perpetrators or mocked by.

Tom you’re completely off-topic here, I wasn’t one of the victims fortunately and I’m not asking for any coins from anyone. I provided this feedback because people from outside the project probably don’t know what happened and it’s only fair to get this information out, the decision will be taken by those in charge of it. I’m only a guy who is convinced that in order for the whole web3 space to go forward and reach it’s potential, bad actors need to be flushed out.

Let’s keep this thread on topic and assess the application at hand and discuss all other personal issues in other channels.

I have just watched the recording of your pitch on Loom and went through the website. Want to see more gaming on Arbitrum and this seems like a well-managed project with an exciting roadmap and decent level of traction.

You have my support!

I have to vote no. I don’t think now is the time to incentivize gaming on Arbitrum, tho I am bullish on the sector in the long run, especially during the next bull run. The competition is tight here and this one is cool, but didn’t make the cut for my ballot. :-/
