Web3 Warri Arbitrum Universities IRL Events 3.0 and Hacker House 2.0 Updates

Milestone 2 Report - The Arbitrum University Event 3.0 at the University of Benin, Nigeria

Here’s a report of the web3 Warri @Arbitrum University event that held on Friday, May 23, 2025 at the University of Benin - UNIBEN, Edo State, Nigeria.

Though our third in the series of IRL Arbitrum-focused universities event, this was our first event at UNIBEN. And by extension, our expansion into the University and bringing the knowledge of Arbitrum to the university and a new state in Nigeria.

The Event had 205 people in attendance, including some professors and faculty members of the university.

Attendance

Amongst some of the goals we set out to achieve at this event and in our proposal was to have a minimum attendance of 150 persons and a max of 200 persons comprising students, researchers, developers, and anyone interested in blockchain technology and Arbitrum.

We also set out to use this event to introduce Arbitrum and bridge the gap between the industry and academia - one of the key goals of the Arbitrum. We are thankful that we had a strong representation from the academic lecturing body at the event.

Not only did we surpass the number of 200 attendees. We had 205 in attendance.

We also had a strong representation of the academic lecturers and professors at the event.

In the run up to hitting this number, we printed and distributing 1000 fliers as part of an intense Arbitrum evangelism for the event across the institution. Including courtesy visits to the Dean of Faculty of Engineering and senior staff members of the institution.

You can see here, here and here, for some of the intense campaigns we ran in the institution.

Professors (and staff) of the University of Benin at the Event

One of the high point (and biggest wins for us and the Arbitrum ecosystem) was the presence of some professors and staff members of the University of Benin.

We had in attendance the following:

  • Engr. Professor (Mrs) P. Orukpe. The Director of the Advanced Digital Engineering Centre - ADEC, of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Benin.
  • Dr. E. G. Maju-Oyovwikowhe. Associate Professor and Assistant Dean, Faculty of Physical Sciences, University of Benin.
  • Engr. (Dr.) P.N. Ogbeifun. Senior Lecturer, Department of Civil and Structural Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Benin
  • And other staff members of the institution.

Sessions covered

We spoke to some of the attendees to know about their expectations and what they hope to learn in attending the event.

Hear some of the responses here.

Being our first event at UNIBEN, we tailored the sessions covered to by the speakers and facilitators at the event:

  1. Blockchain technology
  2. Ethereum
  3. Arbitrum as the leading layer 2 scaling solution.
  4. Everything you need to know about Arbitrum
  5. Building on Arbitrum as a developer
  6. Contributing to Arbitrum and the ecosystem
  7. The Arbitrum ambassadors program
  8. Announcing of the upcoming hacker house - post Arbitrum University events.

It is also worth noting that we had the most engagement from attendees in this University. They came in their numbers with notes, a curiosity and willingness to learn and ask questions.

And have even requested we come again.
