Partner with ETH Bucharest 2025 - Eastern Europe’s Leading Ethereum Conference and Hackathon

Thank you, @0xDonPepe , for your thoughtful feedback and enthusiasm about the event!

We’d be thrilled to welcome you to Romania—ETH Bucharest is the perfect occasion to experience the vibrant local Ethereum community firsthand.

  1. Speaker dinner and VIP area sponsorship:

I understand your perspective on reallocating the $13,500 from the speaker dinner and VIP area sponsorship. These elements are designed to provide exclusive networking opportunities with industry leaders, speakers, and VIP attendees, which could lead to long-term partnerships and collaborations that benefit Arbitrum.

However, we are open to exploring ways to optimize the budget and evaluate whether reallocating a portion of these funds to other impactful areas.

Your input is valuable, and we’ll take this into consideration.

  1. Education, Community Growth, and Events Domain for Season 3:

We appreciate your support for the proposal, regardless of the chosen path. However, the sponsorship amount of $67,950 exceeds the $50,000 cap specified in the Education, Community Growth, and Events Domain framework, making this proposal ineligible for that channel.

Directing this proposal through the DAO Events Budget ensures it is aligned with the appropriate funding mechanism for initiatives of this scale, avoiding unnecessary delays or compromises on the event’s scope.

Thank you again for your constructive feedback and willingness to support this proposal through the governance process.

If you have any other suggestions, we’d love to hear them!

Thanks for your prompt reply. It was an oversight on my side (I didn’t see that you guys updated the proposal).

I would suggest that you present the snapshot with more options besides “for” / “against”, given the feedback provided by some here.

Thank you, based on these answers I would invite you to reduce the budget and apply via the Questbook events track.

On behalf of the UADP, this proposal to sponsor ETH Bucharest 2025 is a very interesting step forward to increase the presence in the Eastern European Ethereum ecosystem.

Some comments we have:

  1. Measuring Impact: While the proposal includes post-event reporting, it would be helpful to establish specific success metrics in advance (e.g., the number of developers onboarded, projects initiated, or follow-ups post-event).
  2. Leverage Stylus Further: Consider creating a mini-series of online pre-event workshops leading up to ETH Bucharest to build excitement around Stylus. This could attract more developers to the hackathon and give them a head start on understanding Arbitrum’s tech.
  3. Future Opportunities: Explore synergies with other events in the region (e.g., ETHGlobal events or local meetups) to build continuity beyond ETH Bucharest. This could make Arbitrum’s impact more sustained in the area.

Overall some of the discussion regarding receiving this funding in another way also makes sense. It might be worth utilizing questbook grants for smtg like this.

Not always, but I think it’s for the best.

The open track of the hackathon emphasizes solving real-world problems and incorporating business plans, aligning with the direction of supporting diversity and pragmatic innovation. The proposal focuses on promoting Stylus technology and attracting developers. It is recommended to highlight target data on newly onboarded developers and long-term ecosystem participants. Additionally, matching the hackathon’s winning projects with incubation programs, incentive mechanisms, and practical support processes could create a closed-loop system and plan.

I’m in line with the comments from other delegates on both points presented.

First, the budget feels unnecessarily high in some line items (e.g., dinner and VIP for $13,500). Second, i agree you should channel this through Education, Community Growth, and Events.

For the moment, I’m inclined to vote against it.

Thank you for your proposal.

Seems like a great event arbitrum should support again. but maybe not through this exact proposal in its current state:

-the budget seems excessive. agree with others that sponsoring the VIP dinner seems unnecessary
-if the issue is >$50k, maybe reducing the budget rather than creating a new proposal is the answer, especially given that it seems there are other frameworks for this to go through as mentioned by others - the dao events budget and guestbook.

would be inclined to vote against this proposal if it goes to vote in the current state unless above is addressed, despite thinking eth Bucharest is worth supporting.

Thank you for your proposal! It’s great to see the growth and adoption in Eastern Europe and Bucharest.

As it stands, the Arbitrum Domain Allocator Offerings (currently pending vote) sets a soft cap of $50,000 per domain. This aligns well with the Genesis Block Package plus the Hackathon Bounty add-on:

  • Total for Genesis Block Package + Hackathon Bounty: $56,500
  • Total with 10% ETHB24 discount: $50,850

Of course, you can seek additional funding, but would not support the inclusion of the Speaker Dinner and VIP Area sponsorship add-ons in a proposal.

Thanks for putting this together. I know how tough it can be to get started in the DAO and yall have done an exemplary job. As an attendee of EthBucharest last year, it reminded me of EthPrague a few years back. There is a strong developer appetite to learn and a caring community.

I’d recommend scaling back to $50k for the questbook approval and then requesting here for support from an arbitrum aligned org. Maybe UMA, Everclear, GMX or other would be interested in sponsoring the dinner.

Thank you for the proposal. ETH Bucharest is a fantastic event with significant developer attendance, offering great visibility for Arbitrum. However, as suggested by other delegates, is it possible to consider lowering the budget to $50k and applying to the Questbook program (if the proposal passes, which we believe it will)

Hi @ostanescu.eth thanks for putting this proposal together! Just chiming in as a member of the ADPC here, in that we think (in alignment with other delegates who have commented here) that it may be better for this proposal to go via Questbook instead of having the DAO vote for it, given the size of funding requested. Scaling the budget back to $50k and going via Questbook would be the most expedient move here.

Big fan of what EthBucarest is becoming, though I recognize the other delegates’ fear with fund mismanagement I think making sure that the DAO is an attractive partner to do business with is important. I’ll be happy to vote yes on this proposal, it’s got a clear roi for Arbitrum. If we clear up some of the issues around some parts of the budget, I’m sure this will pass Snapshot easily.

I’m excited about the prospect of Arbitrum participating in ETH Bucharest. As one of the most mature L2 ecosystems, Arbitrum has gained tremendous value from previous conferences, and I fully support joining this event.
However, I believe it’s essential to refine the budget to address the concerns raised by other delegates. This will not only ensure the proposal demonstrates strong financial responsibility but also help it pass the Snapshot vote smoothly. Let’s make the most out of this fantastic opportunity to showcase Arbitrum’s ecosystem!

Thanks for putting this forward. I think it’s important to keep these events going as they provide valuable networking opportunities for members and delegates. If we can bring in external sponsors to help cover costs, we could make the event even more exciting. As someone suggested, partnering with other regional events would be a great way to expand the Arbitrum community.

The following reflects the views of the Lampros DAO (formerly ‘Lampros Labs DAO’) governance team, composed of Chain_L (@Blueweb), @Euphoria, and Hirangi Pandya (@Nyx), based on our combined research, analysis, and ideation.

Thank you for putting forward this detailed proposal. We appreciate the effort and planning that has gone into it, and it’s great to see that the team has past experience hosting workshops and hackathons, which adds credibility to this initiative.

We like the idea of Arbitrum participating in ETH Bucharest and Arbitrum has gained significant value from previous conferences and events, and we fully support its involvement in this event.

That said, we share the perspective of other delegates that the Dinner and VIP Area sponsorship could be skipped, which would reduce the budget by $13,500. This amount could instead be allocated to securing a significant side event or enhancing hackathon rewards, which we believe would have a greater impact on the ecosystem.

We also agree with the suggestion to channel this proposal through the Education, Community Growth, and Events Domain for Season 3. If you choose to proceed through the governance process, we recommend adding a snapshot poll with options for the community to decide, such as voting for the proposal with or without the Dinner and VIP Area sponsorship.

Overall, our current position is in favor of this event but without the Dinner and VIP Area sponsorship at this time.

It would appear there is robust consensus amongst most delegates here. Still, as this continues to pop up as a proposal that needs to be discussed, we will express our alignment with @pedrob @Entropy @karpatkey @danielo @juanbug @DisruptionJoe @Curia @sid_areta @Euphoria that this is likely best served through existing avenues for this purpose (i.e. Questbook).

Further, this does not reflect a recommendation or endorsement of the grant proposal, but rather that the DAO aims to delegate authority for this category of grants to other parties. Best of luck! It looks like an interesting event, and we appreciate you thinking of Arbitrum.

Thank you for your thoughtful feedback and for seeing the potential impact of this proposal on the Eastern European Ethereum ecosystem.

  1. Measuring Impact:

I completely agree that setting specific success metrics in advance is crucial. For ETH Bucharest 2025, we will define metrics such as:

  • The number of developers onboarded into the Arbitrum ecosystem.
  • Projects initiated during the hackathon.
  • Follow-ups, including partnerships formed and projects that continue post-event.

These metrics will ensure we can provide clear and measurable ROI for the DAO.

  1. Leverage Stylus Further:

Your suggestion of organizing pre-event workshops for Stylus is excellent. We are exploring hosting online sessions to introduce developers to Stylus and ARB in general.

This is next to the 1h IRL workshop that will take place before the hackathon start.

And we already have a head-start here witht the workshop and hackathon we organized last month.

  1. Future Opportunities:

Continuity is indeed critical. We’re already in touch with other events in the region and will look for ways to collaborate, ensuring sustained impact for Arbitrum beyond ETH Bucharest.

  1. Questbook:

While Questbook is an excellent platform for funding smaller-scale initiatives, the $67,950 requested exceeds the $50,000 cap. This is why we’ve chosen to go through the DAO Events Budget, which is more appropriate for initiatives of this size. However, given the general feedback, we are reviewing the best approach for this proposal.

Thank you for your comments.

  1. Target Data:

We will incorporate metrics to highlight the number of new developers onboarded and ongoing projects initiated during the event.

  1. Closed-loop System for Winning Projects:

We love this idea. Matching winning projects with incubation programs, incentive mechanisms, and ongoing support will strengthen the long-term impact of the hackathon.

We are actively working on finding ways to break the general status-quo of hackathons and try to put out real vaulue out of them, and that involves the post event processes.

We’ll work to connect projects with relevant partners and initiatives within and beyond the Arbitrum ecosystem.

Thank you for your feedback and honest perspective.

  1. Budget Concerns:

We hear your (and the other’s) concerns regarding the $13,500 allocation for the speaker dinner and VIP sponsorship.

These elements are designed for networking and relationship-building with key players, but we are open to revisiting this allocation and potentially redirecting funds toward areas like hackathon prizes or a significant side event.

I will get back shortly with a revised proposal that won’t include the VIP area and Speaker’s Dinner.

  1. Questbook vs. DAO Events Budget:

While we respect the suggestion to go through Questbook, the $67,950 requested exceeds the $50,000 cap, making this path (initially) unfeasible.

But given the general feedback, we are reviewing the best way to continue with this proposal.
