Proposal: Return funds to arb users who sent their airdrop tokens to the contract address

Please be aware that scammers are everywhere and will send you emails with phishing links from people pretending to be from the official team, I received an “official support” email and I believe this is a scammer’s tactic, so please be aware!

I found the transaction hash # along with the wallet my etherium was sent to. How do I recover my etherium if the transaction was not initiated or authorized by me?? I don’t understand how this has happened?? Nobody has my keys. No body has my phone or computer. I have always been super careful I don’t see how this is even possible??

I think its not very hard for Arbitrum team. They are our ARBs and DAO can understand us. This proposal is a big move for community. Otherwise we will be victim by our community. I’m sure anyone who’s been experienced this knows how painful it is.

I’m still asking myself how is it possible for the team, to send 750mio arb token to a wallet for the foundation. Without asking the community ? Even tho there was a proposal about the funds…
But we have to open an proposal for stolen funds, something seems off to me. Maybe somebody can explain to me how this is right, I wish they could act this fast for the victims too and reimburse us.

Is it just me or are people mixing the “I sent the funds to the contract address” and “I got hacked” thing together?

Returning tokens inadvertently sent to contract addresses controlled by the Foundation to users and stopping such things from happening again at the source would be positive and beneficial to the community as a whole and to the industry

Omg, are you serious?

  1. This is solely the fault of those who sent. In crypto, such mistakes are irreversible and must remain such, otherwise it becomes a variation of a centralized banking system. No one including the Arbitrum DAO has to pay for their mistake.

  2. I have some serious doubts that any person who was reckless enough to sent their tokens to a random address would be a part of the governance, and not just dump those right away.

No, it won’t be. It would incentivize recklessness and lack of responsibility. In crypto all transactions are final, this is the feature.

What you do with your coins is your responsibility alone. You can send everything to the burn address, nobody can stop you. And nobody will give your tokens back as well.

While I think this would be a nice thing to do, there should be some concern for moral hazard.

If something wrong happens, Arbitrum DAO will save us!

We should invest in education programs to prevent things like this in the future.

same yep mate that was a terrible

Please arbitrum Foundation team, many people have this problem and many too come here for supporting this proposal

Transactions on decentralized blockchains cannot be canceled, but can be returned after being processed by the foundation. This is also the significance of governance.

I agree that it will only foster further reckless behavior and can entail some scams along the way.

Education programs is a nice idea :+1:

The Foundation and the other token holders should not benefit from someone’s mistake. If sending the tokens to the contract address is kind of “burning” the tokens this is a deflationary action and increases the value of the remaining tokens. This situation clearly creates benefits (minor or major) for others.

As I have mentioned before, if someone has left his wallet on the table in a restaurant, which is a similar “user mistake”, probably everyone would expect the restaurant owner to return the wallet to its owner. Opposite is a kind of theft in most of the cultures. If you know the owner of the wallet, you should not keep it, you cannot use it for your benefits. Obviously, the transaction cost can be deducted from the returned amount.

The situation (transferring the tokens to the contract address) is the same here.

DAO does not mean taking advantage of minor DAO members’ mistakes. It is not paying for others mistake. If the tokens are not burned they should be refunded, if they burned, total number of tokens should be increased to the original number to avoid deflation (making remaining more valuable).
