[Non-Constitutional]: Empowering Early Contributors: The community Arbiter Proposal 2.0

- Outside of this proposal, has arbiters ever received any ARB and retroactive rewards from the DAO or Foundation?

Arbiter have only received donations of 6500-7000 USDC (per arbiter) from the foundation. Apart from this, there are no other donations, retroactive rewards and airdrops of any kind.

When considering USDC rewards, the foundation only considers part of the arbiter’s contribution in the Arbitrum discord, and the evaluation metric is only the number of mesages that help community members. This does not include all contributions made by arbiters in the Arbitrum discord as well as prominent contributions outside of the discord.

arbiter seeks retroactive rewards for other outstanding contributions. The foundation and some delegates suggested that arbiters seek remaining funding from the Arbitrum DAO.

- Some delegates suggested: from output driven KPIs (“I have answered xx tickets”) to impact-focused metrics (“we have onboarded xx new users”).

Detailed description and breakdown of arbiter’s application for retroactive rewards

Summary: This proposal proposes to allocate 125,000 $ARB tokens, equal to 0.00125% of the total supply, to recognize and reward the outstanding contributions of the Arbitrum community member known as “Arbiter”. Arbiter receives the arbiter community role in the arbitrum discord after having made significant contributions to Arbitrum, as recognized by members of the Arbitrum team.

Over the three-year period 2021-2023, these contributors played a key role in the development of Arbitrum, from translating, advising, publicizing, and docking projects to community support, fraud prevention, and docking activities etc. At the time of the Arbitrum DAO’s inception, Arbiters did not receive any airdrops or rewards.

By establishing a transparent and fair reward system through the Arbitrum DAO, our goal is to recognize past contributions and inspire continued dedication to the development of the Arbitrum ecosystem. Considering that arbiters did not keep proof of their contributions before and after the establishment of the Arbitrum DAO, and that a great deal of their work could not be counted or quantified, the dedication of each arbiter is also exceptionally valuable.

All members of arbiters unanimously agreed to initiate the proposal as a whole and agreed on an equal share of the reward amount.

Foreword: 25 Arbiters come from different countries with different time zones, speak different languages. Arbiters have been deprecated by the Arbitrum team, and it has become extremely difficult to bring arbiters together. Arbiters who have made outstanding contributions to the Arbitrum community from 2021 to 2023. Compared to on-chain activists and ecosystem projects which have conducted a large number of airdrops, arbiters haven’t received any airdrop retroactive rewards

Considering the large number of contributions made by arbiters prior to the establishment of the Arbitrum DAO that have not been effectively preserved, and the fact that there are many members whose work cannot be counted and quantified, and that the dedication of each arbiter has been exceptionally valuable, all members of the arbiters have agreed that arbiters as a whole should initiate the proposal. All members of Arbiters unanimously agreed to initiate the proposal and apply for retroactive awards for Arbiters as a whole.

Arbiter as a whole (or project) is asking for retroactive rewards. If each member’s contribution is listed one by one to make a forced comparison, this will bring arbiter infinite tug-of-war, mutual disputes, suspicion etc… At the same time, Arbiter is not professional to establish a very systematic and perfect evaluation system.

Special statement: As the earliest arbitrum contributor, arbiter is retroactively obtaining voting rights and voice in the governance of Arbitrum DAO. The Arbitrum DAO airdrop to early adopters and ecosystem projects also does not take price into account, but rather the weight of governance. The choice of 125,000 $ARB is fully considered (explained in detail below). If the current arb price is $0.1, the arbiter also only apply for 125,000 $ARB, which has little to do with price.

Motivation: The Arbitrum community thrives on collaboration, decentralization, and the Ethereum community spirit. This proposal aligns with these principles and strives to:

1.Recognize the exceptional contributions made by Arbiters to Arbitrum’s development.

2.Demonstrate the spirit of collaboration and decentralization within the Arbitrum ecosystem, ensuring its long-term sustainability.

3.Establish a clear and equitable reward mechanism through the Arbitrum DAO, ensuring that Arbiters are treated fairly.

4.Inspire more individuals to actively participate in the advancement of the Arbitrum ecosystem by retroactively rewarding Arbiters.

Rationale: The Arbitrum community, driven by its contributors, has been instrumental in shaping Arbitrum over the past two years. These dedicated individuals have contributed significantly through a wide range of activities, including translation, promotion, event organization, community guidance, safety assurance, and collaboration with other communities. These efforts have been essential to the success and vibrancy of the Arbitrum community.

Response to numerous delegates’ concerns about Empowering Early Contributors: The community Arbiter Proposal 1.0:
Empowering Early Contributors: The community Arbiter Proposal 1.0

1. What is Arbiter?
The definition given by the team:Essentially in the first year+ the Discord needed help with active moderation and community engagement due to bandwidth, and there were people (Arbiters) who were quite active and asked to help out, and thus the role was incepted and given to people who wanted to participate with a recognized role.
image
Arbiters think that Arbiter is an early contributor who joined Arbitrum out of love for Arbitrum, and has made outstanding contributions to the development of the Arbitrum community over a 2+ year period from 2021-2023. After confirmation by the team, they get the Arbiter community role in the Arbitrum Discord.

2. Why did the Arbiters initiate this proposal?
After the Arbitrum DAO was established, there was a large-scale airdrop for the Arbitrum network early adopters and ecosystem projects.

However, Arbiters did not receive airdrop retroactive rewards after the establishment of the Arbitrum DAO. Arbiters, as an important early contributor to the Arbitrum ecosystem, have not been given any right to speak and vote in the development of the Arbitrum DAO.

3. why doesn’t this proposal have a plan for future Arbiter contributions and a sustainable reward framework?
We are only seeking a one-time retroactive reward from the Arbitrum DAO for the arbiter’s contributions over the past 2+ years. the Arbitrum Foundation has already hired its own review/client support team and launched an ambassador program.

The Arbitrum team has made it clear that arbiters have been deprecated, so we are unable to assess and plan for Arbiter’s future contributions at this time. Deprecated arbiters are not able to explore a sustainable compensation plan incentive, as the role of Arbiter has been replaced by the Arbitrum team’s audit/customer support team, the Ambassador program.
image

Members of the Arbitrum Foundation also made it clear: the proposal in discussion is for a retroactive reward and not a future or ongoing one, so this fact wouldn’t be too valuable I don’t think.

4. Why is the activity spans of some members 156 days instead of 2 years?

image
image

This is because some members were mistakenly kicked off the Arbitrum server by the arbitrum bot at various times. That’s why the table shows the least amount of time at 156 days, and some of the contribution records have been deleted.

5. The Messages of arbiter members in the Arbitrum Discord server are quite different. Why not make contribution evaluation based on the number of messages?

There are a large number of Chinese users in the Arbitrum dc server. Taking into account the huge needs of Chinese users and the Chinese community manager NinaRong (team member), the Arbitrum team opened a Chinese channel. (In the long time from 2021 to 2023, there only one language channel in Arbitum DC, which is the Chinese channel.)

Chinese channel activity accounts for more than 50% of the entire Arbitrum community activity. In the Chinese channel, developers and users have huge needs and questions for help, and they are also the most numerous.

Most of the members with the most messages in Arbiter are Chinese. Chinese contributors in the arbiter can use their native language, making communication easier and faster. It is unfair to arbiters from other countries, because only the Chinese area has language channels, so the arbiters in the Chinese area can speak in DC in Chinese and English, while other areas use English.

Due to low activity on other channels, there is less need for help from users. Arbiter members from other countries must also use English instead of their native language when contributing to other channels.

In contrast, the arbiter in the Chinese area has many more messages than other arbiters.

6. Why doesn’t the Arbiters provide all the contribution links and examples?
When we first became Arbiters, we all joined contributed to Offchain Labs with our love, Arbiters didn’t know each other and didn’t know that OffChain Labs would be sending airdrop rewards and establish Arbitrum DAO in the future, so we didn’t designate a dedicated person to manage and keep information about everyone’s contributions, and the Arbiters themselves didn’t keep their own contributions either.

And, also, due to the dissolution of the Arbitrum team members’ Notion and Advocacy groups, and some of Arbiter’s local regulatory policies on the cryptocurrency industry, a lot of information has been lost and invalidated, Arbiters are not able to provide. Arbiter’s contributions are also complex, and it is not possible to list all of them in a proposal or a summary table. For example, there are thousands of messages to promote Arbitrum, and it would be impractical to list every single one of them.

7.Why are rewards not distributed according to each individual’s contribution?
All arbiters agreed that it would be manifestly unfair and difficult to strike a balance if the contribution of a particular Arbiter was evaluated from a single perspective. Every Arbiter agrees that the reward would be equally divided to each Arbiter.

Arbiter is a whole entity, but not everyone’s contribution is exactly the same, and as mentioned above, a large amount of contribution data is lost and are invalidated. Some Arbiters have been mainly focusing on helping other members in Discord; and some Arbiters, in addition to serving the members in discord, have been doing translations, publicizing, matchmaking projects, offering advice, and conducting promotional activities outside of discord such as AMA.

We are trying to distribute rewards retroactively by the amount of contributed data provided by Arbiter, but it requires several sets of assessment criteria for how to assess the data for doing publicity, doing translation, providing suggestions, and conducting AMA. And some members’ contribution links are not working or contribution data is not saved. A large number of Arbitrum original and translated articles, blogs and other materials exist in Arbitrum arbiter Notion, but Notion has been disbanded by team members

As an early contributor to the arbitrum community, it is more than estimable that Arbiter’s dedication should be promoted and recognized on a larger scale.

Therefore, it is obviously unfair and difficult to strike a balance if one arbiter’s contribution is evaluated from a single perspective, and it is more reasonable for Arbiter as a whole (or project) to apply for retroactive rewards, while all arbiters agreed and decided to submit all contributions in aggregate and the rewards are equally distributed, which does not destroy the unity of the group and allows the contributing arbiters as a whole to receive retroactive rewards. Reward.

8. Will rewards be distributed to multi-signature wallets?
Although Arbiters are rewarded retroactively as a whole, arbiters do not know each other and have never met. To ensure security, we will require the Foundation to collect all wallet addresses and provide them to the DAO for verification and arb distribution.

9.why ask for 125,000 $ARB bonus and not more or less?
As the earliest arbitrum contributor, arbiter is retroactively obtaining voting rights and voice in the governance of Arbitrum DAO. The Arbitrum DAO airdrop to early adopters and ecosystem projects also does not take price into account, but rather the weight of governance. The choice of 125,000 $ARB was carefully considered. If the current arb price is $0.1, the arbiter also only apply for 125,000 $ARB, which has little to do with price.

Why choose 125,000 $ARB? We considered this from four aspects:

The first aspect:
Consider based on the amount of retrospective rewards from Arbitrum DAO to early adopters and ecosystem project airdrops, as well as from other communities to early contributors.

image
Distribution of Early Adopter Incentive Criteria
image
Arbitrum network Early Adopters:Users of the Arbitrum platform (via airdrop to user wallet addresses),Number of arb tokens: 1.162 billion
In one month, users can get more than 1000-3000 $ARB just by reaching a certain level of interaction with the Arbitrum network. The one with the highest airdrop reward will receive 10,250 $ARB.

Arbitrum airdrops 113 million $ARB to 137 DAOs or projects:

And AIP 9: Arbitrum Short-term Incentive Program (50 million ARB)

Proposal to Backfund Successful STIP Proposals (21.4M $ARB to 26 DAOs or projects:)

Arbiters as the earliest contributors with two years of high quality help to the development of Arbitrum. We finalized a total reward of 25x5,000=125,000 $ARB based on Arbitrum’s initial on-chain activity reward benchmarks, and we think it’s fair to get 0.5x the highest standard of Arbitrum airdrops. The retroactive amount is even conservative considering the time and effort arbitrators put into making the community a better place. It is important to understand that the $ARB token is a governance token and as such it represents voting rights. From this perspective, the allocation of 125,000 $ARB tokens to arbiter as a whole or the project seems to be directly proportional to the impact Arbiter has had and the time, energy and effort they have invested in the voting rights that will give Arbiter a voice and a vote in the future of Arbitrum.

Imagine if all the Arbiters put their entire contribution for more than 2 years into the Arbitrum network interaction, the on-chain reward will be much more than 125,000 arb.

In terms of airdrops to ecosystem projects, Arbiter as a whole has brought a great deal of help and impact to Arbitrum, and far-reaching. Arbiter believes that 125,000 $ARB is a reasonable range.

Also, just want to re-emphasize Arbiters are very much want to participate in the governance of Arbitrum DAO, retrospective will make Arbiters in the future of Arbitrum have certain right to speak and vote.

The second aspect:
Retroactive rewards for early contributors from other programs or communities as a reference

Almost all major projects have token airdrops for web3 community contributors.
Percentage of other communities rewarding early contributors:

Across Distribution of 20M ACX to communities

Across (1 billion total, 38,000-80,000 ACX per community contributor, or about 0.0038%-0.008% per person)

optimism(RetroPGF2、RetroPGF3) 40 Million OP Donation to Early Contributors:

ENS (100 million total, 40,000-110,000,ENS per community contributor, i.e. about,0.04%-0.11% per person)

Seamless Protocol(100 million total, 100,000 SEAM per community contributor, or about 0.5% per person)

HOP Bridge (1 billion total, 60,000 HOP per community contributor, i.e. about 0.006% per person)

Maverick(https://www.binance.com/zh-CN/research/projects/maverick-protocol) (45,000-50,000 Mav per community contributor. mod has been contributing for less than a year)

A large number of other projects have had large airdrops for community contributors, such as 1inch, DYDX, APT, Namada, etc.

The Third Aspect: Quantifying the contribution of Arbiters as a whole
All data below are examples only, for categorization and more specific information please check:

Detailed description and breakdown of arbiter’s application for retroactive rewards (125,000 $ARB)

Since 2021-2023, the work and contributions made by Arbiters are too numerous to be listed one by one. And due to the lack of targeted data statistics and retention in advance, a large number of missing and invalid contribution data cannot be listed separately and specifically quantified.

But, consider that, Arbiters provided millions times of help to Arbitrum community users and developers. It allows Arbitrum team members to focus more on the development of technology, and also allows millions of Arbitrum community members to get answers to all kinds of questions and needs feedback. (Anyone can view the help and contributions of the arbitrators on the arbitrum Discord server, wechat groups, and other language communities, etc.)

Arbiters are online 24/7 (in Odyssey and Guild activities related to many arbiters are 16 + hours online, for community members to provide the most immediate, high-quality help) arbiter two years, has been involved in the maintenance and management of the community order, to report and stop more than 100,000 times of the scam, to ensure that hundreds of thousands of members of the community are able to get help in a timely manner and to keep the server safe.

Though cannot list all the contributions here, we try to list part of contributions as below:

  1. Contribution categories: Provide high-quality help to Arbitrum community users, developers, and projects
    Sample data display:
    In Discord:
The average number of days arbiter has been in is more than 700 days, 2 and a half years, and the total number of messages in discord is 120,000 (including: private messaging team members and answering questions for private messaging members, as well as some messages that were lost after community members were kicked). Other channels: Twitter, Weibo, Chinese WeChat group, etc., as well as answers from communities in other countries, it is estimated that there are more than 100,000 answers. There are more than 200,000 messages in total.

Creation date of this spreadsheet 27/10/2023 Arbiter’s joining date and message data in Arbitrum Discord(Creation date of this spreadsheet 27/10/2023):

Remark:

1. The arbiter does not have permission to edit the table, so it cannot modify the table content;

2. This data statistics only counts 19 arbiters.

3. Some arbiters were accidentally kicked out of the arbiter dc by robots, so the time and some message statistics are inaccurate. (Screenshot as evidence)

4. For more accurate data, please view Arbiter’s personal contribution summary table

Out of Discord:
As an example of a Chinese community WeChat group, there are dozens of Arbitrum Chinese WeChat groups, and a large number of responses to community members’ questions are received every day. But it has been disbanded due to policy reasons. Team members Nina and Jason testified about this

Video Proof:

The above examples can be proved by team members Nina, Jason, etc.

Retroactive Reward Evaluation:
Provided millions of help to Arbitrum community users and developers. It allows Arbitrum team members to focus more on the development of technology, and also allows millions of Arbitrum community members to get answers to all kinds of questions and needs feedback. (Anyone can view the high quality help and contributions of the arbitrators on the arbitrum Discord server, wechat groups, and other language communities, etc.)

2. Contribution categories: Scam report
Sample data display:
Scam reporting, including assisting the team in reporting scam websites and Twitter: there are many reports, and for two and a half years, whenever a scam is discovered, it is reported. The number cannot be counted. Since 2021, scams have been happening all the time in the arbitrum community, and arbiters are trying to catch scams all the time. We also remind community members all the time

Some examples are listed below, others can be viewed in the Arbitrum discord

Example of scam reporting via private message to a team member:

Examples of scam reports on the arbiter channel:

Examples of scam reports on the #scam-reporting and other channel:
Report a Google search for a scam website pretending to be arbitrum

It was found that there were many scams that could not be stopped, and the team was advised to issue announcements and take other measures

fake Arbitrum is trying to give a scam link so people can claim the Airdrop

Report of large list of scam accounts
Through the reported scam accounts, arbiter found similar names and avatars, and after more than 100 searches, I found the following suspected scam accounts, which are recommended to be banned:

Retroactive Reward Evaluation:
Because it is a retrospective award, the 25 arbiters come from all over the world. There is currently no specific industry standard for retroactive rewards, and it would be extremely difficult to forcibly determine the value of these contributions in the Arbitrum discord.

3. Contribution categorie: Reminder and education for users to avoid scams
From 2021 to 2023, arbiter will be reminding and educating community members about scams almost every day.

In the Arbitrum discord, especially the #scam-reporting channel, you can view a large number of arbiter reminders and educational activities

Some examples are listed below, others can be viewed in the Arbitrum discord
Sample data display:

Retroactive Reward Evaluation:
Reporting scams has reminded and educated a large number of Arbitrum community members to prevent scams. It effectively prevents members of the Arbitrum community from falling into a scam that impersonates Arbitrum, resulting in asset losses.

It can be imagined that if a large number of scam accounts are allowed to appear without anyone reminding and educating community members to prevent scams. This will result in a large number of Arbitrum community members having their wallets attacked and their assets stolen.

In response to this, Arbiter reported scams, reminding and educating a large number of Arbitrum community members to prevent the scams, which is very significant and far-reaching.

Retroactive Reward Evaluation:

Arbiter has provided community optimization, management, operation, and promotion suggestions for Arbitrum more than 300 times, making Arbitrum’s publicity, service, promotion, and operation system more complete, allowing Arbitrum users, developers, and ecological projects to get better service experience and help.

Continuously promote and improve the construction of the Arbitrum community to provide a better service environment for all Arbitrum community users, developers and projects.

There are currently no good evaluation standards and comparisons. Arbiter tries to use one suggestion for how many arbs, but the impact of each suggestion is different. Moreover, in the two and a half years since arbiter, arbiter has been making efforts to optimize the community all the time, not only with more than 300 suggestions. If all the content of the arbiter channel in arbitrum were displayed, there would be a huge number of links.

In fact, each suggestion can promote the development of the Arbitrum community, and the impact will be different. All suggestions are continuously served to the entire Arbitrum community of hundreds of thousands of members. Arbiter is unable to make a specific price assessment of the impact of these recommendations.

Starting from 2021, the Arbitrum ecosystem and community are in their infancy, and arbiters have promoted Arbitrum in various ways. So far, there have been hundreds of thousands of promotions. This has a huge positive and promoting effect on the development of the Arbitrum ecosystem and community. We tried to quantify advocacy efforts, but obviously it’s extremely difficult.

Retroactive Reward Evaluation:
Some Arbiters have their own communities, and as KOLs in Twitter and famous communities, they vigorously promote Arbitrum through their own influence, posting blogs and all kinds of information, and their continuous influence involves hundreds of thousands of crypto community users. This has brought great enthusiasm and new users to the Arbitrum community.

Arbiter attempts to evaluate the value of a promotional message. But it also includes the influence of KOL and the impact of promoting arbitrary. Accurate assessment is difficult.

For 2.5 years, arbiter has been celebrating the spirit of the Arbitrum community, promoting and marketing Arbitrum while providing quality help and making other contributions to the community.

Retroactive Reward Evaluation:
Arbiter has been accompanying and witnessing the prosperous development of the Arbitrum community and ecosystem. Arbiter has been celebrating the spirit of the Arbitrum community and promoting and marketing Arbitrum in a way that we cannot count or quantify, let alone assess the value of.

In summary, the contributions made by Arbiters include, but are not limited to:

  1. Provide high-quality help to Arbitrum community users, developers, and projects

  2. Scam report

  3. Reminder and education for users to avoid scams

  4. Provide technical support to Arbitrum team and developers

  17. Community Spirit/Intangible Marketing

It is difficult for arbiter to strictly evaluate and quantify this extremely complex contribution structure and amount.

For more detailed contributions, please check: List of Arbiters’ partial contributions
some arbiters did not fully collect, organize and fill in the arbiter individual contribution list due to work or physical reasons.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1YjSCrAYJg2A1T5r8YpZx5BbfLQeyhBePqPtW5pA83dU/edit?usp=sharing
In summary, arbiters agree that 125,000 $ARB is a very low Retroactive Reward Evaluation. I hope the above contribution evaluation can answer the questions of Arbitrum DAO delegates and the community about why the proposal amount is 125,000 $ARB.

Aspect 4: Quantifying the contribution of individual Arbiters
You can get a comprehensive understanding of Arbiter’s individual contributions by using the form below.

some arbiters did not fully collect, organize and fill in the arbiter individual contribution list due to work or physical reasons.

Many Arbiters exist data loss, contribution proof not retained, link failure and workload can not be counted and other situations.

arbiter individual contribution list:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1YjSCrAYJg2A1T5r8YpZx5BbfLQeyhBePqPtW5pA83dU/edit#gid=127633825

From the above content and the basic situation of arbiter can be seen:

  1. 25 arbiters from all over the world. It is already difficult to get all the arbiters together again.

  2. some arbiters did not fully collect, organize and fill in the arbiter individual contribution list due to work or physical reasons.

  3. Many Arbiters exist data loss, contribution proof not retained, link failure and workload can not be counted and other situations.

  4. The actual situation of each Arbiter is different.

  5. Arbiter members come from different countries, some of them are Chinese, and there are Chinese channels in Arbitrum Discord. Other members are more likely to provide help on public channels.

  6. Arbiter unanimously agreed to apply for retroactive rewards as a whole, and distribute them evenly. Please ask the delegates and the community to understand and support. arbiter are not professional or specialized members, it is difficult to establish a complex evaluation system.

  7. When Arbitrum DAO has not yet appeared, every arbiter is working out of love and to promote the spirit of Arbitrum community.

Taking into account various factors, the proposal could not be accomplished if certain criteria were imposed to evaluate retroactive rewards.

But what is certain is that every Arbiter has made outstanding contributions to the Arbitrum community. All Arbiters also agree with all contents of the above proposal.

From 6,400 wallet addresses at the initial mainnet launch to 1,270,000+ wallet addresses now, including the growth of on-chain TVLs and a thriving ecosystem. Helped and assisted Arbitrum Discord to grow from tens of thousands of members to now 460,000, providing millions of high quality help, all kinds of Arbitrum promotion and publicity with millions of views.

All of the above evaluations are evaluated according to the arbiter’s retroactive reward evaluation. The retroactive rewards are well over 125,000 $ARB. but arbiter takes into account

1, Arbitrum DAO delegates and the community’s concern that the amount of the retroactive reward is too high.

The deviation of arbiter’s retroactive reward evaluation from the market reference pricing.

3, Arbiter can not list all the contributions, as well as arbiter is the earliest contributor to Arbitrum.

4, Arbiters as a whole show more influence.

5, Arbiter for the development of the Arbitrum community to bring help and influence, and dedication is far underestimated.

6, Compared to a large number of airdrops on the chain of active people and ecosystem projects. And arbiter is slow to get any recognition and commendation.

Summarizing the above assessment, for Arbiter as a whole, 125,000 $ARB is perfectly reasonable.

Specification: Beneficiaries: Arbiters: composed of the most dedicated and earliest contributors to the Arbitrum community over the past two years, who have been recognized for their outstanding and humble service to the Arbitrum community.

Incentive Distribution: A total of 125,000 $ARB tokens are requested to be distributed equally to 25 arbiters as a whole (as agreed upon by all members of the arbiter) in recognition of their past work for the Arbitrum community.

Additionally, the arbiter for Discord ID BILLY#7943 has voluntarily relinquished his award and split it equally amongst the other arbiters, so we will be amending the original forum proposal to change the 25 arbiters in the original proposal to 24 arbiters so that the final calculation will be: 5,208.333 $ARB tokens per member x 24 Discord Arbiters = 125,000 $ARB

Wallet Address Collection and Distribution: Arbitrum Contributor wallet addresses will be collected through a designated process to ensure accuracy and fairness. If the proposal is approved, after thorough verification and validation, the Arbitrum DAO will distribute rewards to each Arbitrator Contributor’s address.

Future Plans: This proposal is a retroactive reward. This is because the Arbitrum Foundation has recently hired its own audit/customer support team and launched an ambassador program. Therefore, as an abandoned Arbitrator, we are currently unable to assess the framework for planning future contributions and ongoing contributions.

Conclusion: Implementing a robust rewards system through the Arbitrum DAO is critical to recognizing and appreciating Arbiter’s valuable contributions to the community. This initiative will revitalize community engagement, promote openness and encourage continued participation, ultimately ensuring the long-term sustainability of the Arbitrum community. Continuous improvement based on community input will be at the forefront of this effort. With this proposal, we are confident that Arbitrum will continue to build a more collaborative, innovative and vibrant Arbitrum community that reflects the values and spirit of our ecosystem.

Your insights are valuable and vital in shaping the future of our community. We welcome your feedback and interaction with us.

Hello, @Mysterymen!
No offense, but:

  • the community received a drop for a very specific activity, which did not include communication on discord. No one stopped you from taking such steps
  • communities risked their money by investing in new projects at the arbitration. Why did you, such active discord users, not want to risk your money?
  • and now, when someone didn’t get any drops (by the way, we don’t know this, maybe you have a drop, but, as it seems to you, it’s not enough), then any group of people can write a detailed post about how they have supported projects for a long time and request a certain amount.
  • the amount is small by DAO standards, but NOBODY received so much for activities. Why should the community give such a big drop to these people?
  • I know people who were not included in this list of lucky ones who were no less actively involved in discussions at an early stage, but they understand that there are rules of the game. And good rules mean that there are no exceptions.

And lastly, I think in the near future there will be a vote to encourage delegates, in which active users like you will be encouraged. You can receive 5k ARB per month for six months, which is more than the requested drop.

Arbiter welcomes and values any comments and questions raised by delegates or community. Here are some explanations and clarifications from arbiter:

However, Arbiters did not receive airdrop retroactive rewards after the establishment of the Arbitrum DAO. Arbiters, as an important early contributor to the Arbitrum ecosystem, have not been given any right to speak and vote in the development of the Arbitrum DAO.

2.ariter’s application for retroactive rewards in the form of a proposal was driven by communication with Arbitrum team members and suggestions from other Arbitrum DAO delegates.

3.Arbitrum DAO has launched many retroactive reward and donation programs for Arbitrum contributors. Any contributing member can apply. More retroactive reward and donation programs are coming.

for example:

  1. The Arbitrum Citizens Retrofunding Round #1
  2. The Arbitrum on @gitcoin Matching Fest
  3. The Arbitrum on Allo Hackaton

In November 2023, the arbiter 1.0 proposal is in the snapshot and tally voting stages. It is not possible to apply for other retroactive award and donation programs.
25 arbiters are a whole. Applying for retroactive awards.

arbiter believes that other contributors prior to the advent of the Arbitrum DAO could receive retroactive rewards by applying or proposing. We further believe that the Arbitrum DAO and community welcome contributors.

4.About Experimental Incentive System for Active ArbitrumDAO Delegates

arbiter is composed of 25 members from all over the world. It would be extremely difficult to organize the arbiters again. In addition, arbiter’s 2.0 proposal is to apply for retroactive rewards. Of course, arbiters will also consider how to participate in Experimental Incentive System for Active ArbitrumDAO Delegates

The Arbiter role is a multifaceted position that involves various responsibilities aimed at contributing to and supporting Arbitrum project. Here’s an explanation of the Arbiter role:

Arbiter Role Description:

Arbiter make positive contributions to the development of Arbitrum and the community. We are early contributors and are very actively involved in diverse tasks to contribute to the growth of the Arbitrum ecosystem in general and the community at the Arbitrum discord in particular. The main responsibilities of the arbiter include:

Includes, but is not limited to, the following contribution types

Translation:

Arbiters are involved in translating content to make it accessible to a broader audience, fostering inclusivity within the community.

Promotion:

They actively promote the project within the community, both online and offline, to increase awareness and engagement.
Community Support:

Arbiters provide assistance by answering questions and addressing concerns raised by community members, ensuring a positive and informative experience for everyone.
Discord Management:

They take on the role of managing Discord channels, facilitating discussions, and maintaining a welcoming environment for users.

Scam Report:

Arbiters play a crucial role in identifying and reporting scams, helping to protect community members from fraudulent activities.

Closely linked with Team members:

They work closely with the core team members, fostering effective communication and collaboration to ensure the server operates smoothly and safely.

Community Liaison for Arbitrum:

Arbiters act as a bridge between the community and the Arbitrum project, addressing concerns, providing insights, and promoting understanding on issues related to Arbitrum.

Language Community Support:

They actively support and engage with the community using their own language, ensuring that language-specific needs and concerns are addressed.

Social Media Engagement:

Arbiters leverage social networks to promote the project, share updates, and interact with the community on various platforms.
In summary, the Arbiter role is a dynamic and integral part of the community or project, requiring individuals to wear multiple hats, from language translation to community engagement and promotion. Their dedication contributes significantly to the overall success and sustainability of the project they support.

Hi,
I in no way belittle your services to the community, however, I believe that any offers that provide drops or grants should be competitive.
What I mean:
It seems to me that the proposal should look like this.

  1. Criteria (as an example):
    • Wrote 100 messages on the forum
    • Wrote 50 posts on Twitter.
    • Made a proposal and it was accepted in Tally.
    • etc.
  2. After this, we accept applications from users for a month, providing evidence of fulfillment of the above conditions.
  3. A DAO committee then reviews these applications and identifies specific users who meet the criteria.

In this case, it is a fair offer in which anyone who considers himself an early adopter can participate

But in the proposal presented there is a limited circle of people who have agreed among themselves, which I consider unfair towards others.

Hi, @cp0x Thank you for your communication. Your communication allows us to fully understand more solutions or methods for retroactive rewards for early contributors to Arbitrum DAO.

But arbiter no offense intended. We will make the following explanations and exchanges on the points you raised:

  1. Currently, there are two retroactive reward methods known to arbiter:
  • Various Grant programs through Arbitrum DAO
For example: The Arbitrum Citizens Retrofunding Round #1

  • By initiating a proposal to Arbitrum DAO

ariter’s application for retroactive rewards in the form of a proposal was driven by communication with Arbitrum team members and suggestions from other Arbitrum DAO delegates. arbiter in the Arbitrum community is a collection of Moderators, OGs and Ambassadors.

From 2021 to 2023, the arbitrator has made outstanding contributions. Each arbiter is granted the Arbiter community role in the Arbitrum discord after being confirmed and recognized by the Arbitrum team. 25 arbiters are a whole. Applying for retroactive awards.

  1. What is Arbiter? Why did arbiter initiate this 2.0 proposal? As well as the retroactive reward quantity and Detailed Breakdown, etc., there are detailed explanations and arguments in the 2.0 proposal.

  2. arbiter fully agrees that other early contributors should also receive retroactive rewards. But the Arbitrum team has made it clear that arbiters have been deprecated. the role of Arbiter has been replaced by the Arbitrum team’s audit/customer support team, the Ambassador program.

Members of the Arbitrum Foundation also made it clear:the proposal in discussion is for a retroactive reward and not a future or ongoing one, so this fact wouldn’t be too valuable I don’t think. Proposal: Empowering Early Contributors: The community Arbiter Proposal - #61 by eli_defi

Arbiter spent a lot of energy and time in sorting out the 2.0 proposals. The 25 arbiters come from all over the world and have different environments and backgrounds. It was extremely difficult to get the arbiter together again.

From the current status quo, Arbiter no longer has the ability to establish an evaluation system or framework that can include all early contributors to Arbitrum.

In summary, the proposal’s retroactive membership scope is only the 25 arbiters recognized by Arbitrum team members. Does not include other early contributors.

We recommend other early Arbitrum contributors to pay attention to Arbitrum DAO’s more retroactive reward grant plans. You all can also initiate more proposals based on contribution category or contribution status.

For example: The Arbitrum Citizens Retrofunding Round. All early contributors can participate. Notion – The all-in-one workspace for your notes, tasks, wikis, and databases.

Just today, Arbitrum DAO announced: The Arbitrum Foundation Grant Program Phase 2 just started!

I reviewed your proposal multiple times. Early contributors deserve retroactive rewards. It can be seen from the content of the proposal that you have indeed made a lot of contributions.

375K ARB applied by 25 abiters. You deserve this retroactive reward.

Good luck!

Hi @Mysterymen - Have the group of 24 or 25 arbiters ever received any ARB from the DAO or the Foundation?

Thank you

We haven’t received any Arb so far.

I meant even in the past, outside of this proposal. Has the foundation ever awarded these 24 or 25 folks with any ARB? Thanks again.

Outside of this proposal, 2021 - As of now, 25 arbiters have never received any ARB donated or retroactively from the Arbitrum Foundation or Arbitrum DAO.

In addition, it should be mentioned that the arbiter has received a certain amount of USDC rewards from the Arbitrum Foundation. But arbiter believes that USDC’s rewards don’t match the arbiter’s outstanding contributions. Following communication and advice from the Arbitrum Foundation and other delegates. arbiter seeks the rest retroactive reward from the Arbitrum DAO.

Compared to the Optimism community. Arbiter contributions to the Arbitrum community. More than the contributions of ambassadors, translators, Nerds, TechNERD, etc. in the optimism discord, the 17+ contribution category far exceeds them. Arbiter’s outstanding contributions outside of arbitrum discord are also evident in the proposal.

  • Optimism retroactive rewards for ambassadors in the optimism discord:
    RetroPGF 3: 99,379.28 OP
    RetroPGF 2: 52,240 OP
    Governance fund: 114,000 OP
    Optimism Agora

  • Optimism’s retroactive reward for translations in the optimism discord:
    RetroPGF 3: 99,379.28 OP
    RetroPGF 2: 85,657.06 OP
    Optimism Agora

  • Optimism’s retroactive rewards for support-Nerds in the optimism discord:
    RetroPGF 3: 99,379.28 OP
    RetroPGF 2: 93,683.00 OP
    Optimism Agora

  • Optimism’s retroactive rewards for supporting TechNERD in the optimism discord:
    RetroPGF 3: 50,461.82 OP
    Governance fund: 16,800 OP
    Optimism Agora
    Optimism Agora

There are also some optimism retroactive rewards for community contributors that have not been counted.

What needs to be mentioned again is:

  • A whole arbiter came up with the proposal.
  • The Arbitrum Foundation made it clear that the proposal is a one-time retroactive reward and does not have the exploration and discussion value of continuous rewards.

Would you mind sharing what the USDC reward per arbiter was? Thank you

The Arbiters wallet identities were protected for privacy & security reasons. So the arbiters don’t know each others rewards, but the foundation provided us with the average usdc reward per arbiter which is around 6500-7000 usdc (One of the arbiters gave up the usdc reward). Someone from foundation can confirm that average if you’d like.

Thank you. This helps. So even on the lower side the total reward/compensation provded by the Foundation was at least 162500 USDC (basically 162500 ARB since ARB was at or below the $1 price for a long time).

Last question from me, and I check with someone on the Foundation side as well. When was this payment made? 2021? 2022? 23?

Thank you,
Ali

@thechaingamer.eth A few additional points that need to be mentioned are:

  1. When the foundation considers USDC rewards, it only considers part of the arbiter’s contribution in the Arbitrum discord. This does not include all contributions made by arbiters in the Arbitrum discord and outstanding contributions outside the discord.

  2. As the earliest Arbitrum contributor, the Arbiter has been seeking to obtain voting rights and voice in the governance of Arbitrum DAO from the beginning. However, due to various reasons and restrictions after the arbitrum airdrop, the foundation can only award limited USDC.

  3. Regardless of the price of arb, the amount of retroactive rewards we have always seeked is only about 2 times of Arbitrum’s maximum airdrop reward (10,250 ARB). (Regarding the retroactive amounts, we also have more explanations and details in the proposal)

  4. As arbiters (early contributors), we hope to have more voice and governance rights in the DAO, instead of just using high-priced arb to measure the value of arbiter’s contribution.

In addition to arb, what Arbiter is more urgent and wants to be recognized and praised by the Arbitrum community and DAO.

Thank you for the additional context. I understand what you’re saying.

For 1. It does become pretty impossible to measure all the ways in which in community members contribute to the growth of a community.

  1. The Foundation rewards in USDC could be converted to ARB freely, so that is a very straight path forward for the contributors to have a voice in the DAO.

Secondly, from what I have seen here and in other DAOs. The real way to participate in the DAO doesn’t begin with votes, but with ideas, discussions, engagements, the vote comes at the very end.

I really appreciate you giving me all this context.

Best,
Ali

Ali, thank you for your concern and attention to our proposal.

Thank you for your guidance and suggestions for us to better participate in the DAO. I will inform all arbiters. arbiter looks forward to more communication and comments from you and other delegates.

After your detailed investigation and research. It would be better if it could be clearly stated whether one is for or against the arbiter proposal. Helps the arbiter to make more modifications or decisions.

arbiter expresses its sincere gratitude to you and other delegates.:pray:

Best,
arbiter
