While I understand how one may accidentally paste the $ARB contract address into a send address when transferring funds, I am generally against the idea of retrieving funds sent to the wrong address. It sets a dangerous precedent.
However, given the unique circumstances of this situation, I believe it may be acceptable to make an exception in this case. It is important to establish clear guidelines and thresholds for when this kind of recovery should be attempted. For instance, a minimum threshold of 300 ARB should be set to avoid somebody spamming the contract address with low-value transactions that could drive up gas fees.
Another important consideration is who should bear the cost of gas fees associated with the recovery process. While it may seem fair for the DAO to cover these costs, It is not fair to expect other users or the DAO to cover the cost of recovering funds that were sent in error due to user negligence or rushing without double-checking. So perhaps a solution would be a fee of x ARB tokens being taken from the amount.
Arbitrum development team should provide an estimated time and cost for recovering tokens accidentally sent to the $ARB contract address and bring it to a vote. However, I also strongly believe that it is ultimately the responsibility of the user to keep their wallet safe and ensure that they are sending transactions to the correct address.
Always remember:
While it is understandable that mistakes can happen, it is important to emphasize the importance of taking the time to carefully review and confirm all transaction details before sending funds. Users should take all necessary precautions, such as verifying the recipient address multiple times, to ensure that they are sending funds to the intended recipient and avoid any potential loss of funds.
The gas fees can be deducted from the amount return.
As per ChainLinkGod.eth’s (one of the delegates with more than 6M voting power) tweet we are talking about 163,000 $ARB from 167 addresses those are transferred to the contract address.
I strongly agree with this proposal, it is futile to assume that anyone receiving an airdrop will make the mistake of sending to another address intentionally, moreso, not everyone who claimed tried to sell off his/her tokens, but even if they did it is theirs in the first place, I see others trying to shame other pple who were selling off, there is no shame in selling.
I think this proposal will be succeed!!
220k is not big for arbitrum foundation , but it can help many people to recover their small airdrop which is big for them .
The risk/reward for any delegator is very high here
High reputation increase if succeds + more airdrop delegation + positive popularity
negligible loss if fails
Assymetric bet for delegator , let’s see who does this fast.
if Dao wants to give feedback to the community for wrongly sending $ARB to the contract address they don’t need the form because the sent wallet address is very clear, it is important that they give back to the community or not. You can see almost 165K $ARB is in the contract address $1.22 | Arbitrum (ARB) Token Tracker | Arbiscan
+1 . This is very important. Suggestion: We reach out to Pools and Delegated voters and we explain why we consider this is important and we ask for their support.
I believe the issue mainly arises from people transferring assets to CEXs. I’d recommend staying on-chain whenever possible and using DeFi and DEXs for improved security and control.
Hi Arbitrum team, I hope the users would be given a chance to recover their tokens. I would want to use my tokens if its recovered to delegate and to vote in the future proposals also to help other people and the project. May God bless Arbitrum. Thank you so much!
I had the same problem as many others, I claimed the tokens and then they were automatically transferred out of my wallet address. I never send my token anywhere.it’s just the arb token which was transferred out.Eth and other tokens are still in the wallet.
Please arbitrum many people have this issues,we ask that you please send back the tokens that have been sent to the ARB token contract address to the sender, you don’t need to spend a lot of energy/staff to do this,Once again we ask for help with our utmost humility
