Summary:
ETH Uruguay Hackathon 2025 is a week-long event (5 - 12 September) combining online education and in-person building days in Montevideo. It is designed to onboard university students and developers transitioning from Web2 to Web3, but also to bring new challenges to current Web3 devs. The hackathon includes technical workshops, mentorship, and prizes, covering DevConnect tickets and other expenses for the winning team to ETHGlobal’s Hackathon in Argentina in November.

Impact of the Grant:
The Arbitrum grant enabled us to:

  • Host the Hackathon (covering venue, meals, equipment).
  • Provide prizes for top teams building on blockchain technologies.
  • Strengthen Arbitrum’s visibility in LATAM.

4. Financial Summary

The Hackathon budget was the core use of the Arbitrum grant. All funds were directed to cover logistics, participant support, merchandising, and prizes. Below is the breakdown (USD equivalent):

Comparison vs. Original Plan:

  • Spending was aligned with expectations, with logistics & infrastructure as the largest portion (close to 50%).
  • Merchandising was higher than originally estimated.
  • Media support cost was minimal, optimized with community resources.
  • All funds went directly to enabling the hackathon experience and rewarding participants.

5. Future Plans & Continued Ecosystem Alignment

  • Support for Winning Teams:
    • We will provide continued mentorship and ecosystem support to the top 2 Hackathon teams.
    • They will be integrated into dedicated Telegram groups with mentors and sponsors to help them refine their projects, find partners, and access further funding opportunities (including Arbitrum’s ecosystem grants).
  • Preparation for Devconnect Hackathon (Buenos Aires):
    • Ethereum Uruguay will help selected teams prepare and showcase their projects at the upcoming Devconnect 2025 Hackathon.
    • This includes technical advisory sessions, pitch practice, and introductions to regional VCs and ecosystem partners.
  • Continued Arbitrum Engagement:
    • We aim to maintain Arbitrum as a core track in future hackathons.
    • Encourage our Hackathon winners to deploy on Arbitrum and present their progress in ecosystem forums.

The outcome of our hackathon wasn’t the desired not and truly not representative of all our hard work! In fact we will be having a workshop during DevConnect about how to reformulate Hackathons in order to make them more successful. We need to brainstorm and come up with a strategy for next year.
