  2. Contact Information: joseph@axisadvisory.xyz
  3. Current Occupation: Lawyer & Founder of [Axis Advisory]
  4. Country of Residence / Time Zone: Malta [CEST]

About your nomination:

Governance Expert

Provide specific examples to support your selection & Other network involvement [ArbitrumDAO & dYdX]

Axis Advisory is a legal, regulatory and DAO Advisory firm providing services exclusively within the Digital Asset industry. Joseph has four years of experience in crypto-focused legal, regulatory, product consulting & advisory services, advising clients on a myriad of matters including [but not limited to]; Corporate Advisory, venture capital deal structuring, valuation assessments (via Axis Advisory’s capital raising assessment service-line) and drafting and negotiation of client deals on a myriad of legal, regulatory, and capital raising matters.

Joseph currently sits as the Supervisor of the dYdX Operations Foundation since July of 2023 [the community-launched entity responsible for setting up and overseeing the operations of the dYdX Chain - https://www.dydxopsdao.com/]. The dYdX Operations SubDAO has a 6.6 Million $ endowment for an 18-month period.

At the dYdX Operations Foundation, Joseph undertakes a role equivalent to what is required as a GCP Council Member; whereby he assists and oversees the proper administration (from a legal, regulatory, and product perspective), of the Foundation’s endeavors and ensures that actions taken by the underlying directors are in the best interests of the dYdX Community and in conformity with the mandate granted to them by such community.

Joseph also participated on efforts such as Xenophon Labs’ paper on Frontend decentralisation [https://xenophonlabs.com/papers/dydx_v4_report.pdf] and the proposal to transition forum-stage governance participation for dYdX so as to increase said participation [Common].

More specifically to the ArbitrumDAO, Joseph’s initial contributions emanated from his role within the TraderJoe Governance Council [a body set up within the TraderJoe community to facilitate & administer the voting power endowed within TraderJoe.xyz as a delegate].

Most prominently, as part of the TraderJoe Governance Council (together with fellow Council colleagues), Joseph contributed to the Council’s efforts in participating in the STIP Project Assessment by reviewing, assessing & voting on the various proposals submitted. In this regard, Joseph also authored a post on this model for delegates (The Delegate’s Handbook: A Primer on the Council Model).

Within the ArbitrumDAO, Joseph has also participated & spearheaded various endeavors aimed at optimizing and/or establishing pivotal infrastructure pieces to ensure long-term scaling & sustainability for existing projects & projects intending to build on Arbitrum. In addition, Joseph also spearheaded other initiatives such as the donation to Coin Centre and the DeFi Education Fund.

A TL;DR of my contributions hereunder:

Snapshot 1 [Passed] This proposal aimed at establishing an industry-first procurement framework for security-oriented services within the ArbitrumDAO. In the drafting of this proposal, a public consultation period was initiated to solicit stakeholder feedback so as to optimally structure this framework.

Snapshot [Passed] This proposal aims at establishing a collective of individuals and service providers to provide pivotal proposal-stage reporting to aid and enhance delegate decision-making. All members to be appointed by election with applicable caps. The members that were appointed were Delphi Labs, Blockworks Research, Open Zeppelin, Chaos Labs, and L2Beat.

Snapshot [Passed] This proposal aims at establishing the ArbitrumDAO Procurement Committee to not only facilitate and administer the ratified procurement framework for security services, but also create new frameworks, propose a subsidy fund for services, & create a means test to assess projects’ eligibility for subsidization.

Snapshot [Passed] This proposal concerned the election of the aforementioned committee members. Here, Joseph obtained the most votes for this election to the ArbitrumDAO Procurement Committee.

Snapshot [Passed] This proposal concerned the creation of a $2.5m subsidy fund so as to subsidize the costs of security services for eligible projects building on the Arbitrum tech-stack.

Snapshot [Passed] This proposal envisaged a monetary contribution of 1,000,000ARB to the DeFi Education Fund & Coin Center from the ArbitrumDAO to continue their policy, litigation & advocacy efforts in relation to open-source software & software developers’ rights.

In Q2 2024, Axis Advisory received a grant from ThankARB for the creation of Arbitrum’s optimistic governance module. This development is being worked on in a collaborative manner by Axis Advisory & Tally.xyz who will be supporting its implementation.

In Q1 2024, Axis Advisory received a grant from Plurality Labs as part of its firestarter program to set up the initial infrastructure for the ArbitrumDAO Procurement Committee - which then led to the successful implementation of an industry-first DAO procurement framework that is currently in its RFP stage and has attracted the attention of the industry’s most prominent security auditors.

Do you work for any gaming related company?

No. Albeit not working for any gaming related company, Axis Advisory does provide services to a host of gaming clients in relation to legal, regulatory and capital raising advisory. These clients have not signaled their intention to apply for the GCP.

Are you willing to complete appropriate non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), KYC requirements, and other necessary documents?

Yes

Today, he serves as President & COO at Sequence, the award-winning development platform for integrating web3 into games.

Greg has spent his career focused on game platforms, publishing and ecosystem creation, and played a key role in the advent and proliferation of gaming innovations including multiplayer gaming, digital distribution, social gaming, matchmaking, cloud gaming, and free-to-play. He views web3 and blockchain as critical technologies that will transform the gaming industry. Some of his accomplishments include:

  • Creator & GM of Xbox Live Arcade: pioneered the first console-based digital games ecosystem in history, shipped 75+ titles, worked with 90+ developers and publishers, published and developed numerous franchises, including UNO, Bejeweled and Minecraft. Also served in strategy and product development roles on Xbox and Xbox 360.

Full Name: Kristoffer DW [ALL CITY]
Contact Information: allcity@apecoingwg.com
Current Occupation: ApeCoin DAO Governance Working Group [Lead Steward]
Country of Residence / Time Zone: Canada [PST]

ABOUT MY NOMINATION:

Self-nomination. Deeply embedded in ApeCoin DAO governance and the broader ApeCoin ecosystem with the ability to serve as a bridge to Arbitrum. Possess close alignment with core entities advancing ApeChain.

DOMAIN WHERE I AM MOST PROFICIENT: Governance Expert

My background includes experience as a regulatory compliance specialist within the Canadian liquor, tobacco, and cannabis sector. I am currently serving my second DAO-wide elected term as ApeCoin DAO’s Lead Governance Steward, overseeing the development and management of various critical initiatives. These include creating ApeCoin training and education resources, providing proposal writing mentorships, implementing delegate growth programs, and administering small grants. Additionally, I am a sought-after resource for proposal authors seeking guidance on overall strategy, introductions to key constituents, and critiques for effective written communication.

Also worth noting, I have authored the most successful proposals at ApeCoin DAO, leading a total of eight successful DAO-wide campaigns, including elections, with seven of those eight achieved within the first ten months of my tenure.

I take a multifaceted approach to DAO governance, leveraging extensive business development expertise to forge strategic brand alignments, coordinate conferences and events, and foster cross-cultural relations. Furthermore, I maintain strong ties with ApeCoin DAOs largest voters, fostering ongoing communication through monthly group calls and consistent day-to-day engagement.

Beyond ApeCoin, I am a recognized specialist in NFT culture and operate a small collectible magazine passion project on the side. This expertise will allow me to effectively onboard a variety of premium builders and large voters into the Arbitrum ecosystem. Additionally, my established trust within the Bored Ape Yacht Club and Cryptopunk communities will open even more doors.

EXAMPLES OF EXPERIENCE TO SUPPORT MY NOMINATION:

As mentioned, I’ve written and passed the most proposals at ApeCoin DAO since its inception and recently became the first Working Group Steward elected for a second term.

In one instance, for a WG budget proposal, we started out with an immediate 6,000,000 vote deficit after the DAO’s biggest voter at the time wanted to see the DAO moving in a different direction. Not taking it personally, as we consider one another IRL friends, this was the first time I had ever had to play from behind by such a large margin. A lot of voter psychology comes into play in these situations, where many smaller voters lose hope or don’t see the point given the size of this person’s wallet. However, I excel under strategic pressure and devised a completely new approach. This strategy included temporarily halting outreach efforts until our major supporters had cast their votes, thereby building social proof and gaining momentum. Through this, the campaign evolved into a community rallying point for support and change, ultimately achieving nearly unanimous approval outside of that one vote.

As far as initiatives go, I have been the visionary behind a large portion of the ApeCoin DAO Governance Working Group’s (GWG) current stable of initiatives, none of which I’m more proud of than APE_U — a twelve-month, fourteen-program curriculum aimed at strengthening the ApeCoin ecosystem through providing hands-on guidance and mentorships for proposal authors. This came together after months of business development with members from Open Campus, an Animoca Brands subsidiary; New Campus, an online education provider working with more than 400 tech startups; and ForbesWeb3, our media partner.

It was also important to me that we strengthened our internal leadership teams, such as Working Groups, and ensured that our mentors were properly equipped. Therefore, we take a “train the trainers” approach to everything we do. This approach will also help the program remain self-sufficient in year two, with the goal of administering these programs to our community without the need for third-party service providers. Soon, I will unveil a new strategy to fund initiatives like this through the use of ApeChain, without relying on treasury funds.

A final note on the business development side is that since joining the ApeCoin GWG, I’ve expanded an initial four-line item financial plan into a resilient ecosystem within the ApeCoin DAO that continues to gain strength daily.

ARE YOU INVOLVED WITH ANY OTHER NETWORKS FROM A GOVERNANCE PERSPECTIVE:

Outside of ApeCoin, I’m a member of 8DAO, a Hong Kong-based investment group focused on blue-chip NFTs and Web3 startups.

DO YOU WORK FOR A GAMING COMPANY:

The ApeCoin DAO has voted to empower Arbitrum technology, with growth led by Horizen Labs and Full Moon Labs to build a premier Web3 gaming chain. This initiative includes an anticipated 100,000,000 APE incentives and will require extensive inter-DAO relations between the ApeCoin and Arbitrum communities, which I am uniquely capable of executing.

Personally and professionally, I will play a key role in onboarding ApeCoin’s largest voters and gaming communities onto ApeChain and into the Arbitrum ecosystem. I also plan to provide wide-ranging exposure to the Arbitrum Gaming Catalyst Program for ApeCoin’s most impactful builders and beyond.

The Working Group I operate recently had the largest WG budget in ApeCoin’s history approved, which includes a $300,000 allocation for small grants to be distributed over the next six months. The categories are designed to be agile, with incentives to reward developers and community participation in the ApeCoin ecosystem – where we also view bringing our community to Arbitrum as essential.

Campaign and Proposal Voting Results:

ARE YOU WILLING TO COMPLETE THE APPROPRIATE NDA & KYC REQUIREMENTS:

Absolutely, and although different from my history in the NFT space, I’m excited to see such a mature approach at Arbitrum and most DeFi protocols, where contributors aren’t always using pseudonyms or generated images for profile pictures. Provide specific examples from your experience to support your selection:

I bring over 15 years of professional experience in mobile gaming, digital advertising, and business development. My current role as SVP of Marketing at Tilting Point involves overseeing the marketing strategies for over 40 mobile games at various stages of development, from technical soft launch to harvest. These games span various formats, including free-to-play and subscription-based models (e.g., Apple Arcade, Netflix Games), and genres such as casual, 4X, match-3 puzzle, tycoon, simulation, and more.

Please note these updates that were added yesterday!

Hi all,

We have some important updates regarding the GCP Council nomination and voting timeline!

Extended nomination timeline:

To accommodate those traveling for EthCC and to give DAO members sufficient time to apply or nominate, we are extending the nomination deadline to the end of the day on Friday, July 12.

Further clarification of the role and purpose of the GCP Council:

  • The GCP Council exists to uphold the principles and objectives outlined in the Arbitrum Constitution, ensuring responsible allocation of funds, and providing oversight to signal if GCP funds should be reclaimed.
  • Each domain-specific role contributes to maintaining transparency, accountability, and effective management of resources within the DAO.
  • If an overarching canonical oversight body is established, the GCP program plans to collaborate with the new oversight body and authors to best structure the GCP Oversight Council for future success within the context of a broader oversight framework.

Revised domain descriptions:

In response to feedback from the DAO, we are expanding and providing more comprehensive details about the skill domains outlined in our previous post. This expansion also aims to attract applicants with a wider range of skills, ensuring a well-rounded Council.

  • Venture Expert - Senior level venture capital and investing background: 10+ years of venture capital experience with a proven track record in deal structuring, execution, and identifying promising investment opportunities in the gaming industry.
  • Growth/BD Expert - Strong business development and partnerships experience: 7+ years in gaming with deep industry knowledge, extensive network, understanding of web3 game communities, and established track record in gaming venture landscape.
  • Governance Expert: Active participant in DAO governance with a proven track record of authoring proposals, and collaborating with DAO members. Additionally, possessing a deep understanding of Arbitrum’s unique features, (Orbit, Stylus, and Timeboost) is essential.
  • Operations Expert: 7+ years of experience in senior finance, legal, or operations roles. Games industry experience is a plus!
  • Player Engagement Expert - Live game ops and technical leadership experience: 7+ years of leadership experience in live game operations and/or deep technical knowledge of game systems and infrastructure.

Important Reminders for Applicants and Voters:

  • DAO members are preferred for any of the remaining Council roles, provided they possess the necessary expertise and passion for the domain! Your unique skills and perspectives will be invaluable.
  • All applicants must specify a single domain for the election. For instance, a DAO member with both venture capital and technology experience should choose the domain that best represents their primary focus for the election.
  • Reminder, we have two nominees chosen by the GCP working group last month with deep experience in games oriented venture capital and business development. :slightly_smiling_face:
    • Tim Chang (Venture Expert)
    • Andrew Green (Growth/BD Expert)

In September, both members will be going through a re-confirmation vote to ensure the DAO has a voice in selecting the best representatives for each category.

Election Process and Details

Voting Platform:

  • Platform: Tally or Snapshot (TBD, still discussing best platform to host elections)
  • Voting Period: July 15 - July 29
  • Voting System: Weighted voting system, proportional to each delegate’s stake in the DAO.

Election Mechanism:

  • Casting Votes: Delegates distribute their voting power across any number of candidates they support. For instance, a delegate with 100 voting power can allocate it among multiple candidates in any proportion they choose.
  • Skill Categorization: Candidates are grouped categorically by their domains to help delegates make informed choices to ensure a balanced representation of skills on the council.

Voting Process:

  • Single Ballot: There is one unified ballot listing all candidates.
  • Weighted Voting: Delegates can use their voting power to support multiple candidates, with their votes being weighted according to their stake in the DAO.

Voting Guidelines:

  • Transparency: All votes are transparent and recorded on Tally or Snapshot.
  • Eligibility: Only DAO members with voting rights can participate.

Vote Counting and Results:

  • Votes are tallied using Tally’s system (or Snapshot if more suitable), with results verified and publicly announced.
  • Selection: The three candidates with the highest total weighted votes are elected to the council.

Special Elections (if needed):

  • Tie Resolution: In the unlikely case of a tie for the third seat, a run-off vote will be held within one week following the initial voting period, including only the tied candidates.
  • Other Elections for Vacant Seats: If a council seat becomes vacant, a special election will be held within one week to fill the position.

If you have any questions, please reach out to us!

Onward!

Hey all,

We hope those of you who attended EthCC had an amazing time in Brussels. There was an overwhelming amount of optimism about GCP as well!

After many suggestions from delegates and foundation members, we are extending the nomination timeline until Tuesday, 7/16. Extending the deadline will allow for more post-EthCC participation, which we believe will be a net positive. We appreciate the efforts of those who have already applied and apologize for any inconvenience this extension may cause. For future efforts, we will plan better timelines to ensure smoother participation.

We are excited to share more details about the voting timeline and process in the coming week.

We appreciate your patience and look forward to moving GCP forward!

Thank you,
